I already told you about Alexa skills on Xbox One. They are now also expandable to the Xbox Series X since share the same dashboard and the same operating system luckily for those of us who migrate from one system to another.
However, and despite the fact that there is native support on the console, a dedicated app was urgently needed to manage Alexa skills and other items from the console Fortunately, it seems that Amazon has already thought about it and launched an official app for Xbox.
Alexa on Xbox One and Xbox Series
The app does not appear to be developed in the UWP format, but rather is a native console app like YouTube or Spotify. Anyway, I notice that at the moment not available for download, appears only in the store. Too we will need an Amazon Echo the similar to be able to use it.
Some of the options and skills we can use include the following:
-
- Alexa, turn the Xbox on / off.
- Alexa, launch
on Xbox. - Alexa, what’s new in Game Pass.
- Alexa, open Netflix on Xbox.
- Alexa, tell Xbox to stop or resume.
- Alexa, tell Xbox to record this.
- Alexa, ask the Xbox if my (friend or gamertag) is online.
With the update, new controls will pull some elements of the Xbox UI directly to the TV and we can use alexa to do more things
- Alexa, play on Xbox.
- Alexa, show me the front door camera.
- Alexa, show me my email.
- Alexa, show me my calendar.
- Alexa, show me the time.
What about Cortana? Where’s Cortana? Well, at the rate it’s going, it looks like it’s going to stay out of the public world; at least for the general public.
