Here we bring you the first impressions on Scarlet Nexus. Thanks to a commercial agreement with Microsoft we were able to prove the demo of Scarlet Nexus before on Xbox than in the rest of the platforms and we found it quite interesting. The latest game developed by Bandai Namco it’s a Action RPG hack and slash which bases its gameplay on the frantic fighting.
The story takes place in the not too distant future where the discovery of certain substances in the human brain caused some of them to develop amazing skills. In turn, these humans formed an elite force to fight the Edit, monstrous creatures (with a terrible design, I’m telling you already) who do not think and whose goal seems to be to destroy everything in their path. If you want to know a little more about the Alters, you can take a look at the article that we presented to you some time ago here.
Two playable characters, each with their own story and development
In this fragment of the demo, we are not presented with much of the story and focuses more on its playability, which we appreciate. We can choose between two playable characters, each with its characteristic weapons and its own history. Before we start playing, we were warned that this demo is not representative of the end game, so when it launches in June, we may find something different. The truth is we have played with it so much Yuito Wh at Kasane
We will see at the end if the differentiation between the characters remains a simple anecdote or, on the contrary, is an interesting incentive to replay the game with the two characters. So far we have been promised a interwoven story but with very different developments.
Telekinesis: the jewel in the crown
Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall are both members of the OSF (Suppression Force) and they will fight the Alters using different weapons. While the former uses a katana for fast close combat Kasane throws a series of daggers to keep distance and has a slightly slower attack. What we saw that the two characters share is the telekinetic abilities, which are the soul of this title.
Scenes are full of items that can be picked up and thrown from a distance thanks to telekinetic powers. We will squeeze RT and, if we have enough power available in the telekinesis bar, we will throw these items at enemies, dealing very serious damage to them. The telekinesis bar will be replenished by fighting and damaging the Edit. We will also find some special items from the scene that we can pick up with the button LT. It will take a little longer to use them but in return we will very powerful throws which will launch a QTE which, by pressing the commands indicated on the screen, will unleash devastating attacks.
Fighting is teamwork and Scarlet Nexus
In the demo, we are accompanied at all times by two other AI-controlled companions. Depending on the protagonist we choose, we will have companions or others. They are very important in Scarlet Nexus since, thanks to the neural connection with the rest of the limbs, we can use the skills of each of them, giving us endless possibilities in combat. This combat system was called SAS. The combination of these abilities with our weapons and telekinetic powers makes Scarlet Nexus a playable delight.
By combining RB and one of X, Y, B or A buttons We can immediately access the special ability of the assigned character. We will have two companions who will help us physically in combat but we will have two more in reserve. Although the two teammates who are on the bench do not fight with us in situ
Combining them effectively will be the key to solving fights with a certain solvency as we have to be attentive to the weaknesses and strengths of the enemies. Of course, we can only access one skill at a time and respecting a certain cooldown that will be filled when we are not using it. This is, without a doubt, the star section of the title and it will delight players looking for eventful and varied battles.
In addition, our character will evolve through a skill tree that will allow you to improve yourself and obtain new powers. In addition, our teammates will also progress and learn new skills that we can configure as we see fit. The more we use a character’s special ability, the more affinity we will gain with that character and the sooner he will gain new powers.
We are playing an anime!
The visual style is purely manga. If you like Japanese anime, you will enjoy Scarlet Nexus Like a crazy. The story unfolds through static comic book style vignettes, very well illustrated, blending with dynamic windows depicting an action from the plot.
The strong point is, above all, in the character design. The protagonists are charismatic and very detailed. The combat movements are very well defined and in Xbox Series X everything works for Regularly 60 fps.
The design of scenarios and enemies they are not up to the task
We found the demo scenarios uninspired and with too many invisible walls where you want to go but can’t. We don’t really know if this is the demo or if they are really designed like that, but we are very afraid that it is the latter. In Japan it seems normal, but in the rest of the world it doesn’t work anymore. They belong to another era and there is nothing that angers me more as a player than exploring and finding a clearly practicable path in sight and not being able to pass because, simply, it is not. is not programmed for this. Well done with invisible walls, Japanese friends!
The enemies, for their part, turn out to be in bad taste. We got to appreciate about 5 or 6 types of enemies and they are all very ugly. Not ugly terrifying but of a very loose design. Hopefully these are just specific enemies because, really, they’re very unfortunate.
First conclusions on Scarlet Nexus
For now, anything we can tell you about this demo of Scarlet Nexus. We loved him, especially for his dynamic and frenetic combat and the way he told the story. Now the content of the game has been fun and perfect for an hour-long demo only, but we have our doubts as to how this title can last for more hours. We are concerned that if the title goes on a lot at the end, it may be very heavy or monotonous, because exploration is not a problem and his fort is based on combat. Only time will tell. In the meantime, don’t sit idly by, download the demo and try it for yourself.
Remember that we can take advantage of the final version of Scarlet Nexus, one of the big titles of this 2021, to June 25.
