To celebrate the Universal Pictures 10th anniversary, Ubisoft regained license through the power of love and brought this title back in style. Limited racing games, in collaboration with the Ubisoft and Universal games and digital platforms, announced that Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game – Complete Edition You will receive several limited editions, including a physical copy of the game and exclusive merchandise for this fall.
Scott Pilgrim’s comeback since 2014
Ubisoft finally managed to bring back Scott Pilgrim in a fantastic edition that includes all DLC from the original.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game it’s a court game classic beat’em up which was released in 2010. It was directly based on the film by Edgar wright, Protagonized by Michael cera and Mary elizabeth winstead, among others. This film, in turn, was based on the famous comics of the Canadian cartoonist. Bryan lee o’malley The first volume was released in 2004 and the last in 2010. That same year released the film and, a little earlier, the video game.
The video game of Scott Pilgrim vs the world it was a cult work that memorably brought back the forgotten genre of beat’em up who had shone so much years ago with great representatives like Final fight, Double Dragon O Streets of rage. It was a throwback to classic through the front door. The love and care that its developers put into it was felt in every pixel, in every detail, in every musical note … The problem was, from the start, it was gone. At least, that’s how the fan saw it.
It is not known if this was mismanagement but the point is that the license with Universal was gone in just 4 years, which also meant that video games disappeared from stores in 2014
Tortas around Toronto
Scott Pilgrim is 23 years old from Toronto who is bassist in a rock band. Despite dating Knives Chau, a young schoolgirl, falls madly in love with a mysterious American, Ramona Flowers. However, to get away with her you must first defeat the league of her seven “evil ex-boyfriends” and he has to make his way through adventures with supernatural and surreal situations. The functionalities of the script many references to popular culture, American music and other video games.
It is the premise to take to the streets and fight against the waves of criminals that will stand in our way. It preserves the fantastic essence of “me vs the neighborhood” fighting games but taken a step further. Thanks to the thin layer that surrounds it, we can progress with our characters to make them stronger, acquire additional skills, buy food or items in stores to heal us and level up and face the later levels with some relief. In fact, there are phases that are complicated and chaotic enough that you can overcome them on the first try, so farmer A little bit will go a long way in making us more powerful.
A brilliant game … for 2010
10 years have passed and while it’s still a great game it shows some aging in the playable. Not so much for its own demerit as for the merit of the (few) representatives of the genre who came out later. We talk about titles like the insurmountable Streets of Rage 4 or the River City Girls, who drank straight from and perfected Scott Pilgrim’s play formula. The start of the game is a bit difficult because it seems slow. It is true that later we can improve the speed of the characters, but if we combine this initial slowness with the lack of techniques, the beginning of the adventure can shock us a lot.
Also, there is one thing that breaks the rhythm a bit and that is that the protagonists and the enemies take forever to get up from the ground. Until we progress and unlock the ability to hit the ground, we’ll spend a few seconds (which will feel like hours) staring at the screen not knowing what to do. Of course, it’s nothing serious but a good beat them
However, any negative feeling is diluted thereby playing cooperative way. As is often the case with these types of titles, the power share the game with 3 other friends magically removes any apparent defect. It is true that sometimes with 4 players the game becomes too chaotic and run down, and more if we activate friendly fire. But isn’t that the grace of multiplayer?
A missed opportunity to surprise with new content
Make no mistake: Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game – Complete Edition It’s the same game we saw in 2010 with the inclusion of all the already basic DLCs. Therefore, that person who was able to obtain it in the past will not appreciate any news.
Now we have the beginning of the content which was included a posteriori and its multiplayer on the Internet. With the inclusion of two additional characters, Scott’s roommate, Wallace wells and his girlfriend Chau knives, were presented additional game modes. From the start we can take advantage four different modes outside of the main story: Boss Avalanche, Survival Horror, Total Battle and Dodgeball.
Boss Avalanche: In this mode, we will face in order all the bosses that appear in the campaign.
Survival horror: the streets of Toronto are infested with zombies and we must stop the wave and survive as long as possible.
Total battle: O Royal battleand. This is the classic mode in which only one can stand.
Prison ball: Who has never played dodge ball at school? It.
These are not too bright modes and they are not up to the campaign main but they bring a certain freshness to the title. It’s a shame that an online multiplayer mode hasn’t been implemented in these extras. It is incomprehensible in these times and a great missed opportunity.
Scott Pilgrim continues to visually amaze
Where it especially shines Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game – Complete Edition It’s in its artistic section. The excellent design of Paul robertson It’s detailed, colorful, and true to the comics. He is one of the great masters of Pixel art contemporary. It’s always fresh and, combined with the quality of the movements of the characters, make this title a real visual delight for lovers of the old.
The music is another of the most important elements of the title. As was the case with the film, in Scott Pilgrim’s video game it’s done lots of emphasis on the soundtrack. Contains various synthesized themes which are devastating and which accompany the adventure at a good pace. However, the sound effects are not as elaborate. In fact, the title’s default audio mix blatantly favors the soundtrack, leaving the sound of hits and objects far below.
Good game but today there are better exhibitors
Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game – Complete Edition is a great street fighting game. However, with other high-caliber beat’em up titles on the market, this work has been slightly surpassed. In addition, the shortage of novelties and additions is alarming. I think they ruined a good opportunity to introduce more content, even if it was only visual through illustrations or new songs. Even so, I consider it a must have title if you like the genre as it is still very fun, satisfying and true to the movie. If you weren’t lucky enough to have it back then and like the retro vibe, now is your chance.
