In our daily lives, in our current bubble, we generally devote ourselves to following the news, everything new, what is cooking in the world of video games. In this sense, it seems that everything is going too fast. An event today and another the day after tomorrow, an exciting new trailer and others not so much, announcements that surprise us, controversies, a lot of noise. But I don’t want to be misunderstood, I don’t mean it. Especially coming from Microsoft, I think we will all agree that what is achieved is a real milestone. The video game industry is and always has been great, with its golden ages of course. But if the current era has to be highlighted for anything, it’s for moves as big as the ones Xbox makes. And that is the reason for this article.
Performance and reliability at the service of the Xbox user
It looks like it was yesterday when Bill Gates introduced the world to the first Microsoft console with Dwayne Johnson. At November 2001, the video game industry was about to change. And it is that in addition to becoming a worthy rival of Playstation 2, the first Xbox was a very complete machine in every way. Its performance was excellent, with a control ahead of its time that already bet on a higher layout of the left analogue. But beyond the power, the functions or the quality of its materials, under his arm he had a catalog that ended up consolidating his success of a brand that would not stop growing until now.
In the second generation, with the Xbox 360, it would end up blowing up the whole Xbox phenomenon. And I must admit that there one server ended up falling in love with the brand (like so many other players). There’s one line I like to say, and it’s that there are special games, like “just seeing them the first time, you know you have to play them anyway.” This is precisely what happened to me with Weaponry of war Yes Forza Motorsport 3.
For the first time since the creation of the Xbox division, Microsoft took advantage of its most direct competitor, Playstation 3. The great evolution compared to the original console, and the fact of redeeming itself with the happy red light problem, made the Xbox 360 the definitive machine of the time. Not happy with it, the boost that Xbox has given to independent developers, and a catalog of the most spectacular
A step back
With the arrival of the Xbox One, Microsoft’s future in the video game world began to be cut short. It wasn’t the best birth for its third game console. It all started with a price that did not convince users, and an accessory (Kinect) that was more of a setback than an advantage for the fans. To this, we must add the eternal comparison (often unfair) with its most direct competitor, Playstation 4. But all this would change sooner or later thanks to a key figure in this story, Phil Spencer. With him, a path full of success for the brand would begin to be forged, implementing the great service that is Game Pass, and bringing us three new consoles (One X, One S and All Digital) which, without harming the first One, would give players new options. After seven years at the helm, we can only toast another seven years of good news for users.
A bright present and an even better future
To understand what the Xbox is today and what it can be in the years to come, it is not enough to know its first steps. For this reason, I wanted to reserve this gap in the article to dedicate it to the X / S Series, but also to another section as important as the hardware; new incorporations in the field of studies. One cannot be understood without the other. And if Phil Spencer came up with something, it was to create a whole ecosystem filled with countless video games. Future projects from these studios will be added to Game Pass (which we’ll talk about later), leaving an absolutely huge catalog.
If we go through all of these acquisitions from Microsoft, we find a chain of studios filled with talent, recently joined by those from Zenimax. Without making too much noise, Xbox machines started with big names like Rare or Mojang. The Turn 10, Playground or The Coalition would also be joined by Inxile, Obsidian and the studio that would make the most noise, Ninja Theory (Hellblade). With all of this, it may seem that the Redmonds were already more than satisfied, but nothing could be further from the truth. The philosophy seemed clear to me, and in my head this sentence only suits me when I put myself in the shoes of the bosses of the Xbox; “Why pay a temporary exclusivity when it could be mine?”.
Crown jewels
We have finally reached the peak moment, the purchase of Zenimax (Bethesda). The icing on the cake was ready, and following its announcement, the video game industry was in shock (in a good sense). Such was the magnitude of the news, that some have tried to call it a “monopoly” when in reality it also benefited them. How daring is ignorance, right? Fortunately, Xbox has managed to create a constant feeling of euphoria among their fans, and even in those that are not yet part of its ecosystem, dare I say. Now it’s like every day we have something to celebrate, let’s do it. But with 23 studios, including The Initiative’s “super study”, Microsoft will continue to bet on expanding the family. We already know that there are other surprises to be announced.
I can’t think of a better way to take advantage of all this potential than to unleash a new generation like the one offered by Xbox Series X / S. The most powerful and smallest consoles respectively in the history of the company. But on top of that, we have two machines that are perfectly suited to Game Pass, Live Gold, and make the most of the backward compatibility and to Smart delivery, giving a yield of ten. With these characteristics (among many others), if the Xbox Series is not the definitive system to play, it is not much missing.
Xbox Game Pass, the last great revolution in video games
Throughout history, we have lived our greatest passion in different formats, with the comings and goings of great companies, and countless titles that have marked each era. There has always been (and still is) this magical liturgy of opening the box of our favorite game and inserting it into our shift machine. From cartridges, which sometimes worked by blowing, to Blu-ray discs or in digital format. The latter has imposed itself in recent years, coexisting with the physical. If we go back a few years, the story takes on a lot more meaning with Xbox Game Pass
But, Is Game Pass really the best service in the history of video games?. The numbers for Microsoft keep growing in every way, and the number of subscribers to this service was not going to be less. The truth is, if I go back to its beginnings, things have changed a lot in a very short time. Its offer was already very attractive, including all Xbox exclusives and a good handful of third parties. However, the growth has been as rapid as it is positive, and now the offer of its catalog is infinitely superior to everything that looks like him. In fact, there is no such thing.
Spectacular service
Good old Phil Spencer created a monster, an entertainment monster. I think many of you who own an Xbox will agree with me that there hasn’t been a stage where we play video games so much. Such is the scale, that by relying on EA Play and now with all the Zenimax content, I get to a point where my inner child is frustrated (in the best sense of the word). This is where the magic of Xbox Game Pass lies, you turn on the console and don’t know where to start. I wanna play it all, but I don’t have all the time in the world. And so every time I turn on my console.
We should not ignore the positive impact in the form of sales, both physical and digital. Another key to the service is that it not only allows you to try out all of their games in their entirety, but if you like them, You can complete them from Game Pass or buy them at a discount. In fact, we recently posted the news on our website that Xbox Game Pass users are not only playing more video games, but spending more on them. Isn’t that astonishing? I think for all of this, for its good performance, ease of use with xCloud and Gold, and an ever-evolving catalog, we have to thank Xbox. Play games like Infinite halo, Gears 5, EA games or what’s new in Bethesda from day one are priceless, but is more affordable than ever.
The best time to be an Xbox user
After this review of everything Xbox is today, and a brief reflection on its origins, I think all that remains is to close this article as the title reads; thank you xbox. We have to be grateful for the titanic effort of a company which, although it did not start off on the right foot in the last generation, was able to recover in the best possible way. Phil Spencer and the team around him made the impossible possible. A real ecosystem, in which players on console, PC or smartphone can take advantage of the entire catalog offered by the brilliant Game Pass subscription. On Xbox, they knew how to see it, and at the moment, there is no rival that even comes close to its subscription service. The investment couldn’t be bigger and the offer couldn’t be bigger.
The material was a point that, since the arrival of the CEO, also began to work with more effort, and you have already seen the result. The most powerful consoles in history don’t come to fight in a duel of numbers, but give their players the best possible experience. Features like Quick Resume, Velocity Architecture, or Smart Delivery are just a part of what the new Xbox Series X / S can offer.. Features that, combined with Game Pass and the new (even more refined) controller, make the Xbox world the best place to enjoy video games. For all this and for what is to come, thank you xbox.
