Prepare for a conquest of purple. The Red Room Takeover Event was initiated in Marvel’s Avenger and will last until May 31st.
Agent James Woo has reported several anomalies in the HARM room related to a computer virus that managed to penetrate the helicarrier’s system. The only thing he could decipher were cryptic messages sent to Black Widow by her old friend Yelena Belova. The news seems to be teasing Natasha, almost mocking it, like playing a twisted game. Investigate these glitches and find out what Yelena has in store for the Avengers.
During this event, new mission chains will be available in which players will have to enter five different hacked HARM rooms, each with their own challenges and obstacles. These new HARM rooms are colored red and contain hazards that Yelena set up to see if you can dodge them. In the “The ground is lava” type, one of these dangers is techno-lava, a pulsating surface that instantly brings down an avenger – or an enemy -. The takeover of Red Room is only possible for single players and is scaled to different performance levels. You cannot take your companion to help. What fun would that be?
The rewards for this event include an exclusive team nameplate, special equipment, a one-of-a-kind comic set, and a substantial amount of XP.
Here are some tips on how to survive lead designer Jason Botta’s takeover of Red Room:
- Always. Be. To move. – With large waves of enemies in a small space, you need to stay on your toes to avoid damage.
- Use the ‘Techno Lava’ death pits – Proper positioning and using the right attacks to blast disruptive enemies from platforms to death can be critical to surviving certain waves.
- Use mobility- and grapple-focused characters for maximum enjoyment – You can get away with anyone, but characters like Black Widow, Kate Bishop, Hawkeye, and Kamala can really flow through the rooms. Any character with a handle can save you from jumping with poor timing.
- But watch out for the environments and the movements you use – Some heroes have movements that translate them very far in the air. This can often result in them accidentally ending up in a death pit. Switch tactics / moves in the air to avoid unfortunate deaths until you are really comfortable with the surroundings and can judge whether or not you are on safe ground
Since part of the rewards of taking over Red Room is an astounding amount of XP, it fits in nicely with a new system we introduced: the Champion System. Currently, when heroes reach the level cap of 50, XP will be out of date as no more skills need to be unlocked. The champion system solves this problem by allowing level 50 characters to continue earning XP to improve their champion levels. With each champion level comes a champion skill point which can be used to unlock new skills to further improve your character’s combat ability.
Champion Skills are on their own page of the user interface and include increases in Heroic Charge Rate, melee damage, critical chance and much more. They’re permanent boosts and stacking, which means unlocking skills throughout the tree increases any stat significantly. There are 372 champion levels in total, which means it’s time to grind and decide who will be your main character. You still can’t respect your champion skills. Therefore, for the time being, choose carefully how you want to empower your hero.
