Another year that has passed through our fingers. This 2020 is undoubtedly a year to forget. The coronavirus pandemic has brought misfortune to many of our homes in one way or another, but in return it has left us with more time to play at home. More time to pull this backlog, this catalog that always haunts us thanks to compulsive shopping, but we must not forget that this year there were also great games, there are also several GOTY in 2020.
As usual, the Xbox Generation staff never stops; Neither the holidays, nor Christmases, nor pandemics can stop us and of course, continue to play and analyze the games. So this year we would have loved to have had one more to fix our gaze (a sigh for Halo Infinite), but we can’t complain either. An incredible selection of games that accompany one of the warmest generational changes ever seen, but more useful and successful thanks to the standardization of backward compatibility, an achievement for which we must certainly thank the Xbox team, who without a doubt has been the driving force behind this trend for this generation and the next.
The choice of games
But let’s see what we’ve come to. We know each of you have your favorite games from this year and we’d love you to tell us in the comments, but the protagonism this time is for the members of the Xbox Generation team, who anonymously they voted their 5 favorite games giving scores: 5 points for the first, 4 for the second, 3 for the third, 2 for the second and 1 point for the last. It is a system that benefits favorites and also makes others appear less.
The result is this selection of 5 titles, which become our GOTY, but first, we’re going to leave you with a small selection of those that were left out, in order from highest score to lowest score:
- Microsoft Flight Simulator – 6 puntos
- Cyberpunk 2077 – 5 points
- Immortals: Fenyx Rising – 5 puntos
- Resident Evil 3 Remake – 5 puntos
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla – 5 points
- Watch Dogs Legion – 4 puntos
- Streets of Rage 4-4 puntos
- DIRT 5 – 4 puntos
- Battletoads – 4 points
- FIFA 21 – 2 points
- Mortal Shell – 2 puntos
- XCOM: Chimera Squad – 1 punto
- Crash Bandicoot 4 – 1 point
- A Total War Saga: Troy – 1 punto
- RAM – 1 punto
- WRC 9 – 1 points
GOTYs 2020 – Top 5 games of the year
And we have already gone through the selection of the top 5, the 5 that got the best score, the ones not to be missed this year for the world, which of course culminate with the authentic GOTY 2020 for Xbox Generation. We start:
5. Wasteland 3 – 9 points
Inxile this year left us a real gem in which to invest many hours. Wasteland 3 is the true maximum exponent of the most traditional role in 2020. Great storytelling, fun development, and plenty of possibilities that make it one of the best titles of the year.
Analysis: Wasteland 3 – Juan Lorente – NOTE: 9.1
4. Yakuza: like a dragon – 16 puntos
This year we not only experienced the arrival of the Yakuza saga on Xbox with great joy, but SEGA decided that Yakuza: Like A Dragon, also known as Yakuza 7, would be one of the representatives of the Xbox Series X / S. The saga already had tremendous quality and a legion of fans behind it, but the shift to turn-based fighting sowed doubts among them. The opposite turned out. Like A Dragon is one of the best games of the year and an outstanding JRPG.
Analysis: Yakuza: Like a dragon – Adrián Fuentes – Rating: 9
3. Gears Tactics – 18 puntos
It wasn’t what we wanted, but now we wonder why they hadn’t done it before. The Coalition and Splash Damage brought us this complete Gears that trades the usual third-person perspective for overhead and action for an XCOM-style turn-based strategy. The result is an excellent title that maintains all the essence of the saga, introduces an interesting new story with Kait’s dad as the protagonist and to top it all off it is fresh and innovative in its genre.
Analysis: Gears Tactics – Javier Bassols – Rating: 8.5
2. DOOM Eternal – 24 puntos
At the start of the year, we were arguing in the newsroom, and we even published two funny articles about it. In 2020, without a doubt, the title of best shooter would be somewhere between Doom Eternal and Halo Infinite, but unfortunately you already know that the second one was delayed, which leaves the game iD Software with a clear track and all the rights of. not only be the best shooter. of the year, if not almost of the generation. The devilish action, the perfection of the game system compared to the first game, a focus on the story that united all the fans and some graphics that make one of the consoles you put it on.
Analysis: DOOM Eternal – Pedro del Pozo – RATING: 10
GOTY 2020: Ori and the Will of the Wisps – 26 puntos
The previous GOTY candidates were good, but Ori and the Will of the Wisps take the cake. As a game, it conforms to pretty much every section. It has an art section and amazing graphicsIts soundtrack is really luxurious, its gameplay addicting, fun and challenging … except you don’t like Metroidvania, the second part of Ori is really sublime.
It’s a moving work of art worth contemplating by every gamer worth its salt, which is why it’s the best game of the year for the staff of the Xbox generation. And make no mistake, he didn’t take 10 due to technical issues. The most upscale of the generation.
Analysis: Ori and the will of the wisps – Santiago Carrillo – NOTE: 9.7
