Update on Project xCloud (Preview) for Western Europe

oriXone April 7, 2020 No Comments

Bringing Project xCloud previews to gamers throughout Western Europe is a priority for us. We know that gambling is an important way for people to stay connected, especially in these times of public arrival, but we also see how internet bandwidth has been affected by difficulties in regional connectivity as most people live at home and online.

It was said many times, but it is true that we are living in unprecedented times because of the global epidemic of COVID-19. Here at Xbox, we look for our products to bring happiness and interaction all the time and especially in these weeks and months when we're asked to stay home. We know that we are in this together, and the support we can offer is more important now than ever before.

Phil Spencer has spoken often about what he sees as the unique power of sports to bring people together, entertain, inspire and connect. We all believe that in our current state of affairs that is extremely true, and we hope that the freedom to discover and play with Project xCloud brings a lot of fun and connection.

Project xCloud, which has been steadily growing and emerging since the preview began last year, is our game streaming technology that allows players to play gaming games from the cloud on their Android phone or tablet. As we promised on X019 in November, we started looking to expand Project xCloud previews this year in many countries.

With that in mind, we continue to evaluate the status of COVID-19 and will begin releasing Project xCloud previews in all 11 Western European countries once we are convinced that it makes sense. We will take a holistic approach to help conserve internet access, establish a preview of each market for a limited number of people and add more participants at a time.

  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Ireland
  • Italy

Today, we are opening Android customer registrations in these preview markets and we are asking players across Western Europe who want to participate first to register, when we are ready to start, you will receive an email with further instructions. We will continue to evaluate the situation and will follow as soon as we can to ensure when selected participants can begin to explore the technology and help shape the future of the game broadcast with us. For those interested in joining the Project xCloud preview, please visit www.xbox.com/projectxcloud and sign up today.

Thank you for your patience during this time. Your engagement and feedback is important as we learn what it means to deliver your best streaming platform. We look forward to taking this journey with you.
