OnePlus is not the type of phone used. Its origin or growth cannot be attributed to what we understand as a traditional producer. It was one of the first companies to bet everything on an online platform and the establishment of a large community.
New OnePlus 8: a very balanced phone
The OnePlus 8 is the new phone within the Chinese product end and is outstanding for being a very compact model in terms of features.
Gradually, this approach has been expanded, without neglecting its original strategy, but the emergence of the product has led to the abandonment of the idea of making the flag less killer and more focused. create the best mobile phone for a much smaller price than its competitors.
Does that idea ring a bell? Yes, it is the same strategy that Xiaomi currently makes with the Xiaomi Mi 10, the phone we tested a few weeks ago and is a direct competitor of this OnePlus 8 that we are reviewing today.

Standard design but very improved
After analyzing the Huawei P40 Pro, OPPO Find X2 Pro or Xiaomi Mi 10, I have to admit that this phone looks similar and different to me at the same time.
The first thing that stands out about this terminal is that its 6.55-inch screen does more compact in hand than all those mentioned before. In fact it is lighter, slimmer, taller and less durable than the OnePlus 7T, which is a great deal as this model has more battery life than its predecessor.
On the left side we have two volume buttons. On the right we have the Power button and Alert Slider, a Hardware item that has become an icon in OnePlus.
At the top we have a microphone canceling sound and underneath we have a headphone microphone, a USB-C port, a loudspeaker and dual SIM tray we cannot place the memory card.
The previous part features its screen, bent at the larger sides but not more or less. Also, we have a camera hole in the top left corner, not too big, but not too discreet. At the back we have a camera with three sensors and an LED flash underneath it.
We cannot close this section without talking about the eye holding aqua green of the un it the company has lent us. It gives the feeling of being matte and glowing at the same time. We can say that it looks like the Huawei P40 Pro, but to be honest we have already seen the same finish on the OnePlus 7T. And we loved it.
More energy, more memory
OnePlus has always been the fastest and most popular type of device on their phone. This has required him to use the best processors and the best memory available, and this is what he did on this OnePlus 8. In a top-of-the-range model, he has made the decision to choose 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB internal memory, of course, cannot be expanded. And the technology is both high, though not at all high, at least in RAM. We have LPDDR4x (not LPDRR5) and UFS 3.0 for internal storage.
There is another version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory, at a lower price.
Added to this is the Oxy OS OS, an interface that seems to add extra speed, no matter how well-built, at the speed of its animation or both.
In its operation we had no problems, or made video calls, or used programs like Instagram too much or used games with really demanding images.
Of course, we have noticed that the cellphone tends to get warmer when we use more apps. Not a problem but it is thunderous, at least if we don't use the cover. It's funny because in some phones with Snapdragon 865 we didn't see this.
It's early fingerprint sensors we didn't like the model as much as we expected. It doesn't fail but we would love to be able to scan each finger twice to increase its accuracy, something that would never happen.
Yes, as the days go by we get used to it and it works better, as we explain in the video. The reason, as OnePlus explained, is that the phone turns as we use it, and it's something that I have seen to show a lot.
Communication is also expected, with Bluetooth 5.1, Wifi 6 dual band, NFC, 5G … Of course, we don't have an infrared emitter, or an FM radio, or a giant jackphone.
The audio is above average
One of the things I look for most in the final audio analysis. It is one of the few issues that can clearly distinguish one top-down from the other.
This OnePlus 8 has two very powerful speakers, in addition to those of OPPO Get the X2 Pro or that of the Xiaomi Mi 10. The first is positioned on the bottom and the second frame next to the phone, certainly the best place since the sound goes directly to our head.
The dose is quite high, even though it lowers very little. However, apart from being the most impressive sound I've tried on a mobile phone, the fact that this product is available at a reasonable price seems to me to be a success, in the same way that it seems to me on the OnePlus 7T.
The OnePlus 8 screen flashes when appropriate
In a market where the best mobiles are starting to bet on using the 2K resolution with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, noting that the newest expensive cell phone stays in FHD + correction at 90 Hz The high level of refreshment may surprise you, but it's not a problem. The maximum light rises to 1100 nits.
The multimedia experience in this category is quite outstanding for a number of reasons. For starters, the Oxy OS allows us to configure screen discrimination as a few meeting points.
Also, this OLED panel supports the technology HDR10 +, and it shows a lot when we post a video that goes with it.
Mobile HDR screen with duel format: Dolby Vision Vs HDR 10
HDR is a new improvement in video image quality and we found two ways to use it: HDR 10 and Dolby Vision. We explain that they are on the LG G6.
Panel brightness is more than adequate and the curvatures of the sides are not given a problem when using the ends in different positions.
Although we've talked about it before, it's appreciated that the diagonal is a little overlapping, and we rarely mention the panel 6.55 inch It's content, but the fact is, alongside other models, it is.
For some weird reason, we lose a good zoom
When I first started learning the technical aspects of cameras, something intrigued me. It turns out that of the four sensors (three on the back and one on the front), three we've already seen on the OnePlus 7T. We highlight in black:
-
- 48 Mpx wide angle Sony IMX586 with f / 1.75 aperture, durability.
- 16 wide angle Mpx with f / 2.2 and 116 degree viewing angle.
- 2 Mpx macro with f / 2.4 aperture.
- Forward: Sony IMX471 16 Mpx sensor with f / 2.0, EIS
Only one of the new sensors, the Macro. The problem is that this has caused the OnePlus 7T zoom to drop, which is strange. When we compare OnePlus 8 with OnePlus 7 we see a big jump, but in the middle there was another model, and this is rare. Very much.
Depending on the quality of the images, we must say that, generally, the feeling is good.
From the day the quality is good, or the picture ends up being a little more fulfilled and especially with more comparisons than expected. It's not a very big problem and the level of detail is valid. Of course, with the wide angle the resolution of the resolution is very noticeable and the detail is very small.
From at night this is maximized. With the main sensor we have great images, you can see the fine pixel binning function, and the headlights and headlights do not stop blurring in the light beam. The wide angle, on the other hand, dramatically reduces its quality, and shows that changes in the color temperature are more pronounced.
Also, it turns out that the aperture is small, and it causes a small, visible light in some shots.
Lacking optical zoom, we rely on hiring a large sensor to mount the standard frame. Two times it happens, but 10 times it can't.
Sensor macro Including a cellphone allows you to take close-up pictures, of course, but the difference is noticeable when we take a picture with the best light or under the wrong conditions.
The video when we have good light it gives good quality, allows us to have accurate colors and a wide range of vibrations, and also to stabilize according to what we expect, through electrical and optical stabilization. Of course, at night there is an earthquake. It's not something we've never seen before, but it has to be fixed.
The front camera It works well during the day, but not at night. The change in quality is amazing and we went from having great details and beautiful colors to a humble, noisy picture. The example in the picture above is the best we have ever done.
The the video recording of this camera is reminiscent of Huawei and that is a great compliment. They work well, have good color, do not destroy skin tones … But at night quality suffers as does rear cameras.
What about wireless charging?
One of the things we were expecting from this model is that it came with wireless charging. It wasn't so, either OnePlus 8 has a fast charging 30W.
It's not a drama, but it's true that the main competitors are starting to bet on higher loads, 40W in the case of Huawei and Xiaomi and less than 65W in OPPO. However, this section is not a bad thing. It does not improve much in the future, but it is not painful.
To the first test We used a 90 Hz screen on drums. We talked on the phone, played Honkai Impact Third, took pictures out and used social apps. We've been listening to music and podcasts through blue headphones. We achieved 5 hours of screen time with 22 hours of independence.
To the second test The battery reduced the refresh rate to 60 Hz. We played, used more Twitter and talked on the phone more than the previous test. We reached 6 hours of screen time with 20 hours of independence
To the third test battery left screen at 60 Hz. We were playing enough (like heating the terminal), using social apps and changing mobile parameters to record video analysis techniques, among other things. We reached 5 hours of screen time with 28 hours of independence.
To the fourth test We keep the refresh rate at 60Hz. We played a lot, talked on the phone, made several video calls, and even listened to some podcasts. We reached 6 hours of screen time with 24 hours of independence.
Finally, note that Smart Charging allows you to leave a small percentage off for a few minutes before the alarm sounds. This reads a little when we charge the phone overnight.
Besides perfection, the O oxygen OS is still good
Having switched phones many times over the last few weeks, it took me a while to see that OnePlus finally decided to change its shelf size and use it on Google Discover computers. It looks like a success and I hope other brands like OPPO will do that.
Although we mention it in all the analysis of the terminal from this manufacturer, we may be dealing with a very visible and personalized display at the same time. The Oxygen OS has shown that you can have a Pixel-like experience without Google's restrictions.
Speaking of which, in the camera app we are allowed to hide modes that we don't use on the big screen, something we have already seen in the Samsung mobile app and would like to see here again.
Otherwise, it's not perfect and we've seen that some things still need to be improved.
OnePlus does not currently use one of the most useful and easy-to-use software features: lift to open the screen. On OnePlus 8 we have the opportunity to use the screen available when you pick up the phone, or to turn on the screen when you double-tap.
Both of these things are appreciated but considering the unique customization of this feature, it's amazing that we can't configure a cell phone to turn the screen on when we lift it, which along with the openness of the face will make its use more comfortable. According to the company this is done for security, for physical and cellular communication, though I personally don't see much difference between hitting the screen or lifting it.
And, that do not allow scanning one finger twice the finger senses limit their functioning. It is not the first type of measurement, but in this case we believe the performance of the sensor is not high enough to prevent double scanning.
The presence of a standard display is appreciated, although many customization options are lacking, as there are very simple looking analogs and digital clocks. But the big mistake is that this existing screen is not permanent, as in other products. Of course, it looks like it will be resolved soon.
OnePlus 8 is a rare, front and back connector at the same time
While I was able to update the OnePlus 7T half a year ago, I was pretty happy with the OnePlus it did in comparison to the OnePlus 7. In fact, it seemed to be far more capable than its older brother in everything.
OnePlus 7T after four months of use: it holds up very well
After a few months using the OnePlus 7T we are bringing you a more mature mobile experience than we thought.
He did not expect that there would be a change in the change from 7Q to 8, but at least he kept what he had won at the time. Almost at any point of view the OnePlus 8 is equal to or better than the previous one. The problem is that there are some strange points.
The OnePlus 8 is lighter, more compact, has a larger battery, more power and more memory. But it's true that it also has a very similar screen, is wireless charging and uses the same cameras … or worse. Both the front and rear lens as well as the wide angle use the same sensors as the OnePlus 7T. But for some reason you're switching to a macro phone, a silly move.
OnePlus 8 will have a very good price, something that can make it successful. But we are left with thorns. If only you had an optical zoom and wireless charging …
