A few hours ago we told you that Google had changed some features of its Gboard keyboard. This is the default keyboard for all Android phones with Google services.
Our surprise has been to find out that the company has a dual keyboard integrated on Android, specially designed for the blind, a keyboard in braile.
How to fix a braile keyboard
To use the braille keyboard we have to use TalkBack and deactivate the extension.
- We open the Settings app.
- We choose Availability.
- Click TalkBack and then the settings.
- We choose a Braille keyboard.
- Select Tap to edit.
- In the dialog box, we select Settings.
- We make the BraBack keyboard the keyboard.
- We open an app where you can write.
- We move the focus into the editing field.
- To switch to the BraBack braille keyboard, we select Change input notifications.
It's important to note that TalkBack's braille keyboard is not currently compatible with other apps like Google Docs or Messages.
How to write on braille keyboard
To learn how to use this keyboard we can follow a tutorial attached to the keyboard. To open it we have to point three fingers on the screen. For a list of braille keyboard options, we select the Open tutorial.
- We take the cellphone horizontally through the screen facing outwards.
- The right hand should hold the end through a USB port.
- We put three middle fingers on the screen.
- We use your thumb and thumb to hold the phone.
- We point the left index finger at point 1.
And we can use gestures on the keyboard:
- Delete book: Swipe left.
- Remove the word: slide two fingers to the left.
- Enter space: swipe right.
- New line: swipe with 2 fingers to the right.
- Text: swipe with 2 fingers.
Sorry this keyboard is available for typing only in English, although we expect some languages later.
