As in Android mobiles, smartwatches with Wear OS can speed up the experience by reducing interface animations. This is a very simple trick that speeds up the smartwatch by slightly increasing the battery life.
Operating systems have a series of tricks to make the user feel that their experience is fluid. Component power is key, as well as software optimization. And there is another element that determines the perception of fluidity: the animations of the system. Switch from one application to another, return to the menu or display the watch settings: Wear OS uses them too. Do you want to speed it up? There is one trick that never fails.
Turn off animations to make your watch run faster
The animations of the interface widen the perception of fluidity, but they have a counterpart: if the smartwatch does not have too much power, usage may be heavier because you are not able to execute the transitions with sufficient ease
Animations settings are not found in general settings, but rather in developer settings (as is the case on Android phones). Before customizing these animations you need to enable the relevant developer settings on the watch, the complete process is as follows:
- Go to your Wear OS smartwatch settings and scroll to “System”.
- Go to “Information”.
- Locate the “Build number“and press repeatedly until developer options are enabled.
- Enter the new develop menu (it appears in the main settings screen) and find the three settings for scales: adjust “Window animation scale”, “Transition-animation scale” and “Duration scale” animation”.
- Enter the menu of each scale and set it to “Animation disabled“.
After disabling animations your Wear OS watch will be seen faster because starts and changes between apps will be done without any kind of transition. Apart from this higher speed, the smartwatch should consume a little less power; without the savings being huge, yes.
