Since our watchOS 6 the Apple Watch has gotten a little tedious work: reading environmental sounds as well the ability to notify us when the sound level exceeds a certain threshold. It is truly a measure that will help us take care of our hearing health.
What are audio alerts?
Audio alerts, as its name implies, are alerts that Apple Watch warns us when it detects that environmental noise exceeds a certain limit for more than three minutes. These levels, measured in decibels, in accordance with the recommendations of the World Health Organization
- 80 decibels: 5 hours and 30 minutes per day.
- 85 decibels: 1 hour and 45 minutes per day.
- 90 decibels: 30 minutes a day
- 95 decibels: 10 minutes a day
- 100 decibels: 3 minutes a day
The WHO reckons that exposure to these levels of durability for longer than prescribed can cause permanent damage to the ear.
How to work to make audio notifications
Audio alerts are automatically disabled, the steps to use them are as follows:
On our iPhone
- We open the app Watch.
- We're in The sound.
- We're working Measurement of natural sounds
From here our Apple Watch will record the audio quality levels we have set and we can check this information in the Health app of our iPhone. To use notifications we will continue with these steps:
- We're in Audio threshold.
- We choose the option.
By default we have to choose 90 decibelsHowever, in terms of our function, if we are in noisy situations, we can choose to either extend this limit or disable it selectively Disabled.
Invisible the steps are as follows:

- We're in The sound.

Without a doubt, being able to get a warning when in the throes of loud noises is more than exciting. Especially from another time we are not careful focusing on other activities.
