Amazfit has tightened the product creation accelerator in 2020 and while it continues to collaborate with Xiaomi to launch some devices under its brand, it is in its own product line that we see more novelties.
One of the last was the Amazfit Bip U, a watch that was presented in mid-October, and we already knew it would arrive in Europe.

Design and materials
Amazfit has several lines of smartwatches and smartbands in its catalog. Bip are generally the cheapest watches, opting for a more casual and younger design. the Amazfit Bip U This is a good example.
We have a square box with somewhat wide frames, especially at the bottom, where the brand logo even fits, although not particularly noticeable, which is appreciated.
On the right side we have the only button available, which is used to open the list of apps, although it would be better to say functions, since we don’t have an app store. If we leave it down, we can perform whatever task we want.
What caught my attention the most about the watch is that the weight is really low, it barely exceeds 30 grams, and it shows a lot. Or rather, it is not noticeable.
We must also talk about the bracelet, silicone, but with a slightly basic touch, and which gives the impression of being too simple. However, we also didn’t expect a leather strap, it wouldn’t make sense. Also, since we can easily change it to generic, we don’t see any issues here.
Something similar happens with the watch case, which being plastic to the touch feels like a cheap product, but of course it’s a way to control the price and not increase the weight.
All expected features
The most positive part of this watch comes from the hand of the functions since the Amazfit Bip U is able to compete with much more expensive watches. We can automatically perform sleep measurement, heart rate and even blood oxygen saturation measurement, which until recently was only observed in watches of higher categories.
We can also control the camera app, using the shutter clock remotely and as a media control for music and podcasts.
Among the most curious functions is that of tasks, which allows you to put a list in the Android application, called Zepp. The point is, we can’t look at them from the clock. It would be great if we’re going to do stuff and don’t want to look at the list on the phone.
There is also a built-in menstrual cycle tracker, perfect for women, and one that controls stress. In case we are too nervous, we can do breathing exercises with another built-in functions.
The only thing that I personally missed is being able to speak through the watch, but it’s still rare to see in watches of this price point. This and that all emojis appeared fine on the screen, but some of them were not recognized by the system in the notifications.

Changing the screen technology on the Amazfit Bip U
One of the biggest changes we’ve seen in the Amazfit Bip U is its display. The first models used a transflective screen which improved its visibility in the sun, unlike what happens to cell phones.
In this case, Amazfit opted for an LCD screen which has to be recognized, it looks very good under direct sunlight. This is obviously not the same as in the other Bip, but it is not at all an obstacle to its use outdoors.
And we are not talking about using it with maximum brightness, it is not always necessary. But if we want, we can give it extra visibility by adjusting this setting.
Autonomy
The battery life of this model is not as high as that of smart bracelets, but given the screen is much larger, that is to be expected. Yet we have reached the 10 days of normal use, with notifications and alerts for active calls, as well as alarms and up to 15 second screen timeout.
There are two settings that can affect battery life, but not by much. One is the screen,
Amazfit Bip U: conclusion
Amazfit launched a particularly round product in the section on functions, since it has nothing to envy its competitors.
The design is as expected of this family of watches and the price when it goes on sale in December will be adjusted, 59.90 dollars In Europe. Where belonging to an economical range is appreciated is in the materials, a far cry from those used for example in the Zepp E with which it shares a form factor, but it is also far in the price.
Of course, there are proposals from other brands with much higher prices which, aftermarket and discounts, are placed in the same range as the Bip U. These are the ones that can be problematic for the company.
As a product, the Amazfit Bip U is perfect for being a first time watch, for giving as a gift and not obsessing over giving it a shot.
