This June 7, the opening speech inaugural WWDC 2021 and, in addition to the usual updates for the Software Among iPhones, iPads, and Macs, Apple also announced four big news for AirPods this year.
Admittedly, he did not take the opportunity to present a new model of AirPods as many expected, but the new functions announced will seem much more interesting if you already have AirPods.
This is what is coming soon.
1. Find my AirPods
Perhaps the big news for WWDC 2021 was that Apple’s “Find Me” network will now expand to include AirPods Pro and AirPods Max as well. A few weeks ago, you had already done it to integrate the AirTag.
So the headphones will now emit a Bluetooth signal so that you can find them using the Search app, as long as they are near an Apple device. You will be alerted when you are near them by beeping or by placing them on the map.
2. Spatial audio on tvOS and macOS
Now we are moving towards something new which, in reality, is not a change introduced in the AirPods themselves, but it will allow you to use them in a new way. Spatial audio (exclusive to Pro and Max) will be compatible with tvOS and macOS (Macs with M1).
Using motion tracking technology from AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, Spatial Audio will give you dynamic surround sound when you use AirPods to play Dolby Atmos content on your compatible Apple TV or Mac.
3. Boost the conversation
This new feature is specially designed for the hearing impaired. However, since it is a very specific technology, its use is even more limited and it is only compatible with AirPods Pro.
The ‘Conversation Boost’ function uses the Pro’s microphones and, by means of Software, manages to focus the audio on the person speaking to you as long as you watch them. You should be able to hear it much better.
This mode will also allow you to have more control over background noise levels, again, so that the focus is always on the person talking to you.
4. Loud notifications
During WWDC 2021, Apple also announced a feature that is not exclusive to certain models, but you should be able to use it on all AirPods. To be able to use it, yes, you will need to be using Siri on your iPhone.
Now, Apple’s virtual assistant will be able to read notifications aloud through AirPods. It will also read notifications related to a specific time or location, such as notifying you when a package will be brought to you or reading the shopping list when you arrive at the supermarket.
