The current trend of designing a mobile phone brings them closer to being a 100% screen-enabled device. This does not leave room for other things, such as fingerprints and small, notification LEDs.
In recent years we have seen how different types of products have eliminated this simple and useful function especially when you let us know when we have a notification without picking up the phone.
Samsung has decided to use the S20 standard as an alternative to, although not equally effective, in some cases it will act as a substitute. It's called Edge lighting
This function is a complement to Edge apps, which has been a feature on Samsung phones for a while and allows us to unlock apps by sliding from the side of the screen.
How Edge Lighting Notifications work
To use this function we have to follow these steps in the terminal.
- Let's go to settings.
- Select the Screen option.
- Let's go to Edge Screen.
- Click Edge Lighting.
- We choose the lighting style to customize the color, effects, width, brightness and height of the borders.
- We opt for bright lighting to choose whether to replace pop-up notification windows when the screen is on, off or both cases.
- We select apps that can work to make the border lighting receive notification
It is important to note that this function requires that we disable Disrupt Mode and Do Not Always Display.
As you can see in the pictures there are many designs and colors to personalize alerts. However, it would be nice to keep a warning on the screen, just like we used an existing screen.
