The email client WhatsApp He keeps getting news through his Beta version, like his new animated sticker packages or being able to change the speed of reading notes, but his developing version also gives us some of his upcoming news.
For over a year we have known that WhatsApp is preparing the encrypted backups to give more protection to the user, but during all this time this feature is still in development, so we have to find out how it will work with its own source code leaks.
More protected WhatsApp backups
The latest update of WhatsApp Beta allows us to know more details about the configuration of end-to-end encrypted backup. The WABetaInfo filter was successful in activating some screens to show a preview.
Your configuration screen will inform us that the activation of the backup with the end-to-end encryption We will protect our message history and media files on Google Drive from unauthorized access to our account. It will also show the maximum available or contracted storage in Google Drive.
In the next window, we will need to create a password of at least eight characters, case sensitive. Once the password is set, the next screen informs us that the encrypted backup is enabled, offering the options to to change the password
Currently, WhatsApp only encrypts messages, calls and video calls, but not their backup. Anyone who can access our Google Drive account can access all messages in our backup.
As soon as WhatsApp activates the encrypted backup already using a password, we will keep our data more protected against possible attacks or forgetfulness. Of course, if we don’t remember the password, we won’t be able to recover the backup. WhatsApp should launch this novelty before the end of the year.
