Documentaries on the history of video games are definitely on the rise. The war of the Nintendo SEGA consoles, the history of the PlayStation, or even the Midway explosion in the world of arcade are just a few of the topics that have recently featured in films. And speaking of Midway, one of his greatest hits will soon have the right to his own documentary.

We tend to forget it sometimes, however NBA Jam is undoubtedly a monument in the history of video games. In 1993, when it was released, Midway’s arcade basketball game had sales of more than $ 1 billion (in 25-cent coins), more than Jurassic Park that year.
Not only is NBA Jam a real phenomenon in American arcades (and among NBA players) before it becomes a hit on consoles, but it also has a story worth telling. And that’s exactly what Reyan Ali did in his book of the same name, published in late 2019 and critically acclaimed. Obviously inspired by this book, BestCross Studios offered the right to adapt Reyan Ali’s book to turn this story into a documentary.

Knowing that Insert Coin, the Midway story documentary centered on the American studio’s arcade years, this new film can serve as a complement. At the time of this writing, this NBA Jam documentary has no announced release date.
And for those of you who are wondering, there is currently no new NBA Jam (license still owned by the NBA) in development.
