At the start of the closed beta on April 7th, Valorant achieved crazy viewership at Twitch thanks to key drops. The game announced for summer 2020 is based on a mixture of CS: GO and Overwatch. While we play a very old school tactical shooter from the basic structure, hero skills should bring some momentum into the usual gameplay.
Each of the heroes – in Valorant they are called Agents – carry their own set of skills into the field. In this overview we introduce you to all agents and show you their skills. So you can decide which hero is best for you and your style of play.
This is how the skills work in Valorant
The character skills in Valorant work differently than in most other shooters. There are a total of three different skill types that make up the four skills set per agent put together.
- Ultimate skills: Each character has their own ulti, which has to be loaded with kills or completed objectives. But it is extremely powerful.
- Signature skills: These skills are automatically available to you in every round. There is a defined signature capability for each agent.
- Acquirable skills: Each agent can buy two additional skills. You can purchase them from the store at the beginning of each round. However, they cannot be put together individually – the selection is fixed for each hero.
Phoenix, the fire devil
Phoenix comes from Great Britain and is fighting offensive skills. With Phoenix in the team, you can lead quick breakthroughs or fight as a jungler on your own account. Or create a distraction while your Valorant team secretly attacks somewhere else.
These are Phoenix's skills
- Wall of flame – Places a fiery barrier that blocks your view and damages anyone who crosses it. Phoenix can bend the wall by holding the left mouse button while throwing.
- Nasty litter – Throws a torch around corners, which after a short delay explodes in blazing light and temporarily dazzles everyone who looks at it. Left click bends it to the left, right click bends it to the right.
- Hot hands (Signature) – Phoenix throws a ball of fire that explodes after a delay or when it hits the ground. The fire zone damages enemies and heals the player.
- Revenge (ultimate) – Phoenix marks its current position. If he dies during the duration of this ability or if time runs out, the agent will be reborn in full health at the marked location.
Jett, the knife artist
Jett is from South Korea and uses her speed to make opponents dizzy. It could warm up players who like more agile fighting styles and want to support their team in Valorant with a kind of smoke grenade in the unnoticed advance.
These are jet skills
- Cloudburst – Jett throws out a cloud of fog that blocks the view. Using the ability key, she can curve the cloud's trajectory during flight.
- Upwind – After a brief charge, Jett catapults himself into the air.
- Tailwind (Signature) – Jett does a dash in the direction she is moving.
- Blade Storm (Ultimate) – Jett arms himself with several deadly throwing knives that do moderate damage and are fatal to headshots. Getting a kill will restore all daggers. A left click throws a single dagger. Right click throws all remaining daggers in a short burst of fire.
Viper, the venomous snake
Viper comes from the USA and relies on toxic effects to bathe enemies in acid or block the view of key areas with a wall. She can also turn a large area into her personal snake pit, allowing her to see all of the enemies in the area.
These are viper skills
- contamination – Viper fires a projectile that explodes in a pool of harmful acid.
- Poison cloud – Throws a gas emitter that can be reactivated to generate a plume of smoke at the expense of fuel. The emitter can be picked up and thrown again after a short cooldown.
- Toxin screen (Signature) – Viper uses a long line of gas emitters that can be reactivated to create a high wall of toxic gas at the expense of fuel.
- Snake Pit (Ultimate) – Viper creates a large toxic cloud in an area that lasts as long as Viper stays in the cloud. Enemies within the cloud are highlighted for Viper.
