What’s new in Android 12
AVIF file format
Android 12 supports the AVIF image file format. Your photos will be compressed more. This should drastically reduce the memory consumption compared to formats such as JPEG, but the image quality should not suffer as a result.
Please note: The following changes are rumors that have not yet been officially confirmed by Google:
Opening up to third-party app stores
Google is supposed to Android 12 make the operating system more open to third-party stores. The Google Play Store is preinstalled on most smartphones, but you can also install app stores such as the Amazon Store or the Galaxy Store. The US manufacturer could in future classify such other stores as “safe” and make installation easier. Google has not yet revealed how this should look in detail.
Furthermore should “Ban” Google Emojis from Android 12. So far you had to wait until the US manufacturer integrated the new pictures into a new version. Emojis are usually published by the Unicode consortium in spring or summer, but these were often only available on smartphones in autumn. In the future, fonts and emoticons are to be updated independently of the system.
Cell phone becomes an identity card
Saving ID documents on the smartphone was already planned as a feature for Android 11, but a lack of international standard prevented this. Thanks to the ISO 18013-5 mDLs standard, the feature could find its way onto your smartphone with Android 12.
Hibernation mode for apps
Apps in Android 12 are supposed to have a kind of “hibernation” mode receive. Applications that you do not use or only rarely use should be “frozen”. This should relieve the cell phone memory and increase performance. The first pre-release version of Android 12 could appear in February.

A new security feature under Android 12 could allow you to use a Activate “restricted network” mode on the mobile phone. Apps must adhere to certain rules in order to gain network access. For example, you could create blacklist or access lists for certain apps.
New split screen

Improved “one-hand mode”
Smartphone displays are getting bigger and bigger, and operation with just one hand is becoming more and more difficult. For this reason, Google is pushing buttons and switches further down in Android 12instead of shrinking it. With a new setting, you should be able to move elements on the screen even further down.
Android 12: This is what the interface could look like
The first images of the Android 12 surface have appeared on the Internet. These should come from a document from Google. It is unclear whether the final version will also have this design.
Apps under Android 12 should adapt to the appearance of the user interface can. You can set a primary and accent color, which are passed on to an interface in the operating system. This can be used by an application.
