Game news Arkane (Deathloop): The French studio is surprised by the takeover of Bethesda by Microsoft
,
Arkane, the creator of the next deathloop, is one of those studios that giant Microsoft has bought. An acquisition that a few months earlier surprised him as well as the general public.
A few weeks ago, Microsoft and Bethesda formalized the start of a long-term partnership. Flagship licenses such as Dishonored, Doom, Fallout, Prey, Rage, The Elder Scrolls, The Evil Within or Wolfenstein are now owned by Microsoft. In general, the company receives studios like Software (Doom), ZeniMax Online Studios (The Elder Scrolls Online), Bethesda Game Studios (Fallout, The Elder Scrolls), Arkane (Prey, Dishonored, Deathloop), MachineGames (Wolfenstein, the future Indiana game Jones), Tango Gameworks (The Evil Within, Ghostwire Tokyo), Alpha Dog (MonstroCity: Rampage) and Roundhouse Studios, which represent almost 2,300 employees worldwide. The productions of these structures will benefit from the Xbox ecosystem based on the Xbox Game Pass in the future. Also note that “some” Bethesda titles are Xbox and PC exclusive.
When Xbox shared its intention to take over Bethesda six months earlier, the French developers of Deathloop in Arcane Lyon said they were just as surprised as the others. In an interview with press start
It was pretty surprising, I would say. It was unexpected to a certain extent … but after that it made a lot of sense. – Dinga Bakaba.
A comfortable position in the game pass
Some legendary arcane productions, namely Prey or the Dishonored license, are already part of the Xbox Game Pass catalog. A novelty that, according to Bakaba, would be an enrichment for the creativity of the team:
The ability to be part of the Xbox Game Pass ecosystem makes things a little different for us as we can take up space in that service and we continue to develop the kind of games we make and do well.
And to add: “It’s a service that allows us to be creative, have an audience, and build that relationship over time, and it’s really exciting.”
Keep in mind that Deathloop, slated for May 21st, will remain exclusive to PlayStation 5 for a year following a prior agreement with Sony. The story takes place on Blackreef Island, where two assassins, Colt and Julianna, compete against each other. The first wants to break the endless cycle in which it is locked, while the second seems to thrive there.
