Call of Duty: Modern War has a lot to do. Many are good, many are bad, somewhere in between. Overall, the developers of Infinity Ward rebuilt the Modern Warfare sub-brand that was once the Titanic through a "soft restart". However, at launch, it was a potential game. This is not a finished product.

Let's start with the good. Modern warfare feels great in your hands. Firearms are real heavy punches, and subsequent sitting power is both meaningful and realistic. They are loud-due sounds-and different. The audio work here is impressive-a tribute to the sound designer of Infinity Ward. Modern Warfare is one of the best first-person shooters I have ever played.
The reloaded animation is great. I like the way that you can use your other hand to save clips that you won't kill later. I like the way the barrel smokes after a long fire. I like the way the oscilloscope actually zooms in on what you are looking at. The M4A1 assault rifle was the first choice for early multiplayer games and was the most disgusting Call of Duty gun I've fired in years. Aim the scope and squeeze the right trigger point, fast, smooth and satisfying. Call of Duty has always been a fantastic game for shooting virtual guns, and Modern Warfare is probably the best game in the series. But when you take firecrackers out in the wild, something strange happens-I'm not sure it's a good question.
Modern Warfare returns to the origin of the sub-series by shooting for a more tactical gaming experience. It's interesting how developers can change how Call of Duty plays and works. This is largely related to map design and expanding player numbers. Let's start with the map. The map of modern war is full of rubbish. Literally. Destroyed buildings everywhere. Corners and crevices throughout the store. Windows. Oh windows! They are everywhere. You can open and close the door!
And many maps are very large, swollen to accommodate 10v10, 20v20, and can match 32v32 in the new "ground war" mode. So, in fact, these big maps are full of wonderful hiding spots. Each window is a potential sniper. Each door can make the face clay. Be careful, the brave adventurer stomps, because that dark cave may be about to kill you while facing you without remorse-it may be killed from behind some tarpaulin.
