Update from May 31, 6:15 p.m .: Apparently, not only will Crysis 2 get a new edition in the foreseeable future, but also Crysis 3. In a similar tweet as before, Crytek does not mention the remaster version by name, but lets speculation run wild:

If the current teasers come true and both Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 receive remastered versions, then a release in a double pack would even be likely. There has been no official announcement so far.
Why the thought of a new edition of Crysis 2 has not been so well received by fans so far, we have summarized for you in the original message.
Original message: It’s actually just a few tiny tweets that Crysis’ official Twitter channel recently released. “They used to call me Prophet”, then an eye emoji, then a screenshot from Crysis 2. But if you remember how the remaster for Crysis 1 was announced back then, you will see the pattern here: Behind the tweets is very likely an announcement about Crysis 2 Remastered.
But it meets with less approval than expected. The reactions to the tweets are often critical, criticize the developers’ remastering strategy – and question whether a remaster for Crysis 2 is even needed in 2021. Let’s break it down.
What was announced?
On May 20th and 21st, Crysis’ Twitter channel posted three tweets suggesting a remaster of Crysis 2:

A possible remaster is not mentioned by name, but these tweets are a striking reminder of the way in which the new edition of the first Crysis was announced a few years ago. In addition, this cannot be a confusing anniversary tweet: Crysis 2 already celebrated in March 2021 its ten year release (feel old yet?).
A Crysis 2 Remastered would also fit strategically into the concept: the new edition of the first part in September 2020 already indicated Crytek’s course to fill the now dormant brand with “new” life. But the fans are divided on whether Crysis 2 is the right game for it.
Subdued reactions on Twitter
Of course, Twitter never depicts the entire potential player base, but it still offers an interesting initial picture of the mood. Despite the over 5,000 likes, many commentators are critical: Do we even need a remaster of Crysis 2? The original version allows such images with modern hardware:

Many people would prefer a Crysis 4 instead of warming up an already fresh shooter. Here is an example of the reaction of a Twitter user. Voices like these can be found in abundance, as I said.

But there is a second criticism: Where’s Crysis Warhead? The first remaster of Crysis already received a lot of criticism because it simply left out the most technically problematic level of the original on the PC (it was later patched, however):

Crysis Remastered – test video for the new PC edition
Here the console version of the original was used for the PC remaster – and vice versa, Crytek is still missing the chance to give the console community the PC-exclusive Crysis Warhead as a remaster.
In addition to the pimped up graphics, remasters especially score here: They make older games accessible to new platforms. The fact that the PC gets the “worse” version of Crysis 1 as a remaster and the consoles in turn not receive the only PC-exclusive content – this sting runs deep. And of course it is now tearing old wounds, because a remaster of Crysis 2 would be a clear sign that Warhead is simply being passed over:

We will of course keep you up to date as soon as there is more specific information. What do you think of the matter? Do you fancy a remaster of Crysis 2? Or do you see it more critically?
