Last July, Bethesda re-released the shooter classics DOOM and DOOM II to make them compatible with current operating systems or to make them available on the current PS4, Xbox One and Switch consoles as well as mobile platforms. At the start of 2020, a noteworthy update is now being delivered for both titles.
As a result, both the re-release of the original DOOM from 1993 and DOOM II can now be played at 60 frames per second. So far, the new releases had only the original 35 fps to offer, so that the further development will be quite noticeable.
But this is not the only news, because otherwise both titles have some improvements to offer. So you can now look forward to a quick save function as well as selected add-ons. The additional downloadable content for the two shooters includes episodes created by the community and the MegaWads – Sigil included. All add-ons can be downloaded free of charge from the main menu.
You can use the new quick save function by simply pressing R / R1 / RB while you are pausing the game; so you can save your current position. If you want to reload from this point, press L / L1 / LB in the pause screen. Smaller other optimizations that make your life easier are also a quick selection system for weapons, an improved level selection, new options for the aspect ratio and the brightness as well as a new HUD for split screen.
