Sony has announced on its official blog the release dates of two of its most important exclusives this year The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima, after having delayed the launch of the first for logistical reasons derived from the coronavirus pandemic, which consequently has affected the launch of the second, which was originally planned for June 26.
Confirmed release dates for The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima
Thus, the launch order of both PS4 titles is configured as follows: The Last of Us Part II will launch next June 19, while Ghost of Tsushima will be released a month later, the July 17th.
At first, in the very announcement of the delay of The Last of Us Part 2Naughty Dog made it clear that the delay in his game was due to reasons merely related to COVID-19 at a logistical level that prevents an uneventful launch: the development of the game was already finished and even Naughty Dog claims to be evaluating options to put it up for sale as soon as possible.
This new announcement comes after the massive leak of game content that took place this weekend: since Sunday night they have been leaking scenes from gameplay, cinematics and parts of its plot with important spoilers from the history of The Last of Us Part 2.
Thus the unexpected but inevitable delay of the launch of The Last of Us Part 2 is in a postponement of the premiere of just three weeks, since its original release date was scheduled for May 29. It should be remembered that at the time Sony automatically returned the money to those who would have digitally reserved the Naughty Dog game, so it would not hurt to check if it is necessary to make the digital reservation again.
Ghost of TsushimaFor its part, it was scheduled to launch in late June. With this new date, it is also postponed for about three weeks, despite the fact that at the time of the delay of The Last of Us Part 2 Sony itself indicated that "there are no other delays to report, but we will keep you updated". Even so, certain modifications were expected in the release date of the Sucker Punch game that pointed to August, but it is understood that the dates have finally squared to publish it a little earlier.
Both dates are official and it is understood that immovable. Sony has published this information in its official blog in a letter signed by Hermen Hulst, head of Worldwide Studios, in which he also thanks so much to the development teams for their effort and work, both Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch Productions, and also to the community for your understanding and patience.
