Subject line "link email address"
American Express customers should be extra careful with phishing emails. The Consumer Suggestion Center first warned emails with the subject "Linked Email Address". In our fraud report, we will show you how to safely identify fake emails.
With phishing emails, criminals are trying to extract unsuspecting customers from their login data. As reported by the Consumer Advisory Center in the fraud warning, American Express customers will especially be targeted by cybercriminals in March 2020. They send you the following message under the "Link Email Address" topic:
Dear Customer
When checking your account, our system replied that you have not linked your email address to your American Express credit card banking business. From now on, every American Express customer must link their email address to their credit card banking business in order to be able to guarantee that you will receive all our notifications, such as third-party logins, payments, etc.
Your American Express card will remain blocked until you link your email address. If you do not link it within the next 48 hours, it can only be activated by one of our employees. Upon activation by our staff, we will charge a service fee of € 19.99.
Link email address
Thank you for your help and hope your understanding.
Sincerely, Your American Express Customer Portal
If a bank or company requires you to enter customer data via email, it is always phishing. Therefore, under no circumstances should you open a link in an email and log in to a page behind it. Otherwise, your account may be taken over.
