A good two months after the release of the playable teaser of a Gothic remake, THQ Nordic has now collected enough feedback to be able to decide how to proceed. The community's vote was therefore one-sided: The fans want a new edition of the classic – with an overwhelming majority of 94.8 percent of the teaser's players.
THQ Nordic has now made the decision easy: The German role-playing game from 2001 is now being reissued in the form of a remake after over 180,000 players had already resorted to the teaser. The survey was taken offline on the evening of February 16, after which there had been over 43,000 responses. On Steam, the playable teaser was provided with over 9,000 reviews, the makers have received further feedback via the social media channels.
How does it go on in concrete terms? THQ Nordic will establish a new studio in Barcelona and analyze there exactly what gamers liked and which aspects of the teaser were not well received. As an example, many gamers want a darker and less colorful game world. Nevertheless, the remake should remain as true to the original as possible.
The remake then goes fully into production. The release is planned not only for the PC, but also for the next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X. There is no specific release date yet; the only thing that is certain is that publication will no longer take place in 2020.
