It's not Half-Life 3, but also the VR spin-off Half-Life: Alyx apparently moves the masses and shooter fans. This manifests itself in the fact that the VR headset Valve Index suddenly turns into an absolute box office hit.

It is the effect that Valve must have hoped for: The new shooter Half-Life: Alyx appears exclusively in the VR area and is now an absolute system seller in relation to Valve's VR headset index. In any case, sales figures have risen noticeably since the full shooter spin-off was announced.
As the market researchers from SuperData now state in a new VR / AR report for 2019, the Valve Index ultimately sold around 149,000 copies by the end of the year. The special thing about it: 103,000 of these sales of the headset were only brought in in the last quarter – and this is clearly connected with the announcement of Half-Life: Alyx.
The VR shooter had only been announced in November and from then on saw a significant increase in sales in the fourth quarter. In the weeks following the announcement, the delivery quantities were sometimes scarce and new orders could not always be delivered directly. This continued until 2020.

Thanks to the new shooter, the Valve Index even became the best-selling PC VR headset in the last quarter of the year – despite the limited numbers. So while suddenly the PC competition for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift could be left behind, the index is still far from becoming the largest player in the VR business. Reason: Sony's PlayStation VR was even more successful this quarter alone with 338,000 copies sold; the Oculus Quest had 317,000 sales.
Half-Life: Alyx will be released in March 2020.
