The 8K hologram monitor can display 3D content from 45 different perspectives at once. Depending on where you are looking from, you will see a different angle of the 3D image.

3D without 3D glasses? Real holograms? We know something like that from sci-fi stories like Star Wars or Blade Runner. Obviously, existing technology is slowly approaching such ideas: Looking Glass Facotry has a new one 8K hologram monitor presented, which enables 3D without VR headset.

The so-called »8K Immersive Display« is a 32-inch monitor that, according to the manufacturers, uses a »unique combination of volumetric display technologies in a three-dimensional display system that runs at up to 60fps«. So we can count on that with the naked eye 3D images and videos

look, where you get to see something different depending on your perspective.

Looking Glass Factory promises that the monitor 45 different perspectives of the 3D content generated. So if you look at the screen from the left, you will not see the same picture as someone who looks at it from the right.

This introductory video gives an impression of this, even if the actual effect can only be recorded to a limited extent with a normal 2D monitor:

What is also not immediately recognizable in the video: The screen comes w ith a decent weight and thickness. So he weighs a lot 28.6 kg

and has a depth of 10 centimeters – that’s not exactly flat.

Price unknown, but probably very expensive

The manufacturers do not easily reveal how much the 8K hologram monitor costs. The screen seems to be mostly for large companies or for medicine, and so on you can find out the price only with a direct request.

The 32-inch display should not be too cheap, however. Because the 15.6-inch 4K model costs according to the official website of the Looking Glass Factory between $ 3,000 and $ 6,000. The 8K variant, which is twice as large, will accordingly be much more expensive.

So if you were hoping to connect your gaming PC to the screen and play in 3D soon, it looks difficult at first. Mainly because games don’t currently support this 8K 3D technology.

In the monitor area, this technology is against it not a complete novelty, we have already reported on the first hologram displays. The “Immersive Display” from Looking Glass now enables the whole thing for the first time on such a large screen and in 8K.

Amazingly low system requirements

In theory, you don’t even need very sophisticated hardware to use the hologram monitor. It is simply connected via two display ports and already runs with comparatively low system requirements:

  • processor: Intel Core i5 or better
  • GPU: Geforce GTX 1060 or better
  • Video memory: 4.0 GB RAM or more

But as mentioned: Even if you have such a computer, we can still only dream of 8K 3D gaming. So far, video game technology is far from it. But the »Immersive Display« shows very clearly where the journey could one day go.
