Housemarque is working on a Royale shooter Stormdivers, which is struggling as the studio shifts its focus to another project.
HousemarqueThe Finnish studio is known for arcade-style games like Resogun and Nex Machina, and the studio released the latest information on player expectations in 2020.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Housemarque and has a grand plan. However, none of these involved Stormdivers, which has been put on hold as the studio increased production of "our largest and most ambitious work to date" with the help of an unnamed third-party publisher.
The game has been in development for three years and is now fully in production with the support of the largest team in the studio's history. Although it is currently only 80 people, it is relatively small.
CEO Ilari Kuittinen wrote: "It is important that the entire company can unite to deliver this game, which will define the next development of Housemarque."
"We have never offered a product of this scale before."
You won't remember the storm diver and be forgiven. The game was announced in 2018 as a Royal Battle Royale shooter with a Housemarque style. Since then, it has been part of many closed betas, but since then, the studio has not updated the progress of the project with fans.
The news is not particularly surprising; Housemarque does not seem to have much confidence in the success of Stormdivers. "It's too hard. Whether we want to succeed or not, it's not possible because of fierce competition." Kutinen told us in Reboot Develop last April.
Hopefully we won't wait long to learn more about this mysterious project.
