As every week, the news from Independent Games offers some good surprises, which we offer you in the form of a small selection. For this time, some eagerly awaited – and sometimes a long time ago – titles as well as more subtle projects that are worth a look. On the program: action, narration and JRPG. Have fun reading and see you next week!
The door of death
Six years after Titan Souls, the Acid Nerve studio returns with Death’s Door, again published by Devolver Digital. This time the player slips into the role of a brave raven who is robbed of a soul for which he is responsible. Then it is necessary to track down those responsible in the depths of a realm that escapes death., and of course rich in threatening creatures. To get rid of it, the funny bird can use melee weapons, arrows or magic. On Steam, the developers conjure up the “personalization of the statistics” of the hero, with a system that will undoubtedly be similar to any good Souls-like (improvement of strength, endurance, intelligence). Death’s Door seems to be the next very good surprise on the sophisticated action game side with real visual identity, it is on sale for $ 19.99 and is included in Xbox Game Pass from the day of its release.

Crystals
Two years after its announcement at E3 2019, the JRPG Cris Tales is finally ready. Since all this time, the title has been captivating above all with its artistic orientation, very colorful, and its concept of constant travel between past, present and future, sometimes at the same time. But more than a few nice gimmicks the game seems to offer a really gripping epic, inspired by cult games like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI or Valkyrie Profile. In Cris Tales the player plays the “Chronomaner” Crisbell, who has to put an end to the plans of the empress. To achieve this, the heroine meets powerful allies and invokes the forces of time. On Steam, the team speaks of a “unique story with different paths” and an “innovative turn-based combat system” that – again – appeals to the past, present and future and is being sold for $ 39.99.

Ender Lilien: Quietus the Knight (PS4 / PS5)
In a completely different genre, Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights is a challenging 2D action RPG in which you play as a young girl, supported by many ghosts. She wakes up with no real explanation, deep in a church while the kingdom of Farterre is ravaged by a devastating rain that turns all living things into evil creatures. Its goal is simple: to purify the world and restore life. Be successful, the character can count on several souls, which give him different powers. So it is possible to mix the skills of a mighty warrior who wields a heavy hammer with those of a magician who sends magical balls. Their range of skills increases after each boss and it will also be possible to find them in optional encounters. Ender Lilies can also count on a very nice artistic direction and atmosphere. It currently costs $ 24.99 on PC.

Fallen knight
2.5D action game that springs to mind right away Megaman, Fallen Knight will be released on PC after staying at Apple Arcade. The title poses a rather unusual scenario. “As the 49th Lancelot of the name, your mission is to get rid of six unique enemies.” we learn from the Steam side. Another little feature: as a Knight of the Round Table, you must avoid killing your opponents and instead use a system of parrying and disarmament. And best of all, Fallen Knight even offers multiple endings depending on whether you’re killing or just paralyzing your opponents. The rest is more classic: the action is lively and fast, and each boss has a very specific challenge. It will also be possible to get special powers to do more damage or even attack multiple enemies at the same time. We don’t know the price at the moment.
- Released: July 20, 2021 – PC / Already available for iOS (Apple Arcade)

Mini highways
After the popular Mini Metro, the Dinosaur Polo Club studio returns with a new relaxing strategy game, Mini Motorways (available on Apple Arcade since 2019). The principle is simple: build a road network to create a metropolis. It is necessary to maintain traffic in the city and carefully manage improvements to meet the needs of your network.. The goal, like in Mini Metro, to “survive” as long as possible. Mini Motorways brings together several maps inspired by cities around the world (Tokyo, Munich, Los Angeles) and a soundtrack that evolves with your city. During your game it is possible to stop / speed up the time, add bridges and roads, but also remove the parts that you think are too much. All with pastel colors and a calm atmosphere. We do not yet know the price of the PC version.

Last stop
New title from Variable State, Virginia, and now under the direction of Annapurna Interactive, Last Stop is a narrative adventure. The player will impersonate three different characters whose universes intersect in the midst of supernatural events : Dona, “a teen who floats a bit and feels trapped in a suffocating environment and an older sister who is too protective of her,” according to the Steam site; John, “an overworked, middle-aged divorced father overwhelmed by debt and stress”; Meena, “a professional with all-consuming ambition”. It will therefore be necessary to discover the personal history of each one of them and make their decisions. At the moment we don’t know anything about the game’s gameplay, but we can easily imagine a 3D point’n’click – like in the Telltale studio – where it will be possible to interact with objects and choose from several dialogue options . Last Stop is published on all current platforms for $ 20.99. We can’t wait to try it out.

Farca song
Song of Farca is an investigation game set in the near future. The developer of Wooden Monkeys brings the atmosphere closer to the title of Black Mirror, a series that specifically explores the drifts of modern technology through several dystopian universes. In the story the team has put together, IT companies are gradually gaining influence and becoming a “modern aristocracy that doesn’t care about the law or the mortals,” we read on Steam. The player embodies the private detective Isabella Song. who has to navigate between the different factions of the city and investigate complex cases with the help of drones and his intelligence. In fact, it will be necessary to collect clues and link them together in order to make the right decisions during the dialogues. The game will obviously be very narrative, with several phases to gather information. For the time being no VF on the program.

Blue Fire (PS4 / Xbox One)
Type of marriage between Zelda, Celeste and Hollow Knight, Blue Fire is a game that combines action with platform, and all with a touch of sophistication. A cocktail that might be indigestible but actually works very well, as we explained to you in our review of the PC and Nintendo Switch versions. Specifically, you are awakening in the Kingdom of Penumbra and looking for information about this world and your presence here. During your adventure you will meet powerful enemies, gain new powers (double jump, round attack, gauntlets) and traverse dungeons inspired by The Legend of Zelda. Most of all, you will come across completely optional areas dedicated to the platform that will improve your life bar and the difficulty of which will only increase as you progress. It’s original and mastered. The price for the boxed version of Blue Fire PS4 is $ 29.99.
