Steam ratings and press reviews speak for themselves: The Mass Effect: Legendary Edition is well received. The Citadel and Prothean Ruins have never looked more beautiful – but many players still have reason to complain: The field of view (FOV) cannot be adjusted. Fortunately, the modding community is flying in faster than light to solve the problem.
This is particularly annoying because many find the preset Field of View too small (the default value is 70). For example, an FOV that is too narrow can promote motion sickness. A corresponding controller is standard in many modern games, but is missing in the ME remaster. We are therefore introducing you to a FOV-Mod that can help you.
You can read in our test whether the remaster is also worthwhile for you if you have already spent hundreds of hours on board the Normandy:

FOV mod for Mass Effect: Legendary Edition
Of course, the modders didn’t hesitate for long, but got to work straight away. The FOV-Mod “Better Camera (Higher FOV)” is available for download just a few days after its release and has been downloaded more than 5,000 times.
What is the mod doing? It lets you set the FOV in all three games simply by pressing a button. When you’ve installed it, press F10 to open the menu. You can then set your FOV from 70 to 90 or higher, for example. The differences are immediately noticeable:
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 3
Where can I download the mod? You can find “Better Camera (Higher FOV)” here at Nexusmods for free download.
What do I have to consider during the installation? In order for the mod to work correctly, you have to install it in the correct folder. Here are the official instructions from mod creator JadeBarker:
1. Open the folder of the Legendary Edition, then look for this path: Mass Effect Legendary EditionGameME1BioGameCookedPCConsole
2. Makes a backup of the file Coalesced.bin an.
3. Replaces then Coalesced.bin through the .7z file from the mod folder.
Note that you have to look for the appropriate path for ME2 and ME3 of course!
Are you looking for more information on ME technology? Then take a look at our technology check for the remaster, which will tell you, for example, whether the performance is suffering from the new graphics. We also put Mass Effect: Legendary Edition through a potato test.
