The shooter series Killzone was once considered one of the largest PlayStation-exclusive brands, but it has recently been quiet around them. Now it doesn’t seem to be looking good for the franchise in general in terms of the future.
With the launch of the PlayStation 5, one or the other shooter fan may have hoped that Sony might bring the Killzone series back again. However, such hopes are now being dampened.
The reason for this is the fact that the official website for the Killzone franchise has now officially been taken offline. Sony itself speaks of having “put it into retirement” without further ado. Anyone who goes there will only be confronted with a corresponding message and then forwarded to PlayStation.com.
“The official website for the Killzone franchise has been retired. We apologize for the inconvenience. We thank the many fans of Killzone.com and visitors over the years, as well as their enthusiasm and support,” says it there.
With Killzone: Shadow Fall the last part of the former successful series was published seven years ago, now Sony seems to finally say goodbye to the exclusive series.
The responsible development studio Guerrilla Games has enough to do anyway, after all, after the success of Horizon: Zero Dawn, they are now working on the sequel Horizon: Forbidden West.
For those who continue to deal with the old Killzone games, the website closure has other consequences for you, as some online elements are affected by this. The multiplayer mode of the last two games remains available, but it is no longer possible to create and manage clans in Killzone: Shadow Fall, for example.
