Fans of the League of Legends franchise have another reason to be happy, because Riot Games remains loyal to the brand beyond the new games that have already been announced and now also wants to publish an MMORPG.
The studio Riot Games, which is behind the successful long-running League of Legends, announced various spin-offs last year or – in the case of League of Legends: Wild Rift, for example – even published them. However, the end of the flagpole is far from being reached. A wish expressed by numerous fans is now being heard.
Greg Street, Vice President of Intellectual Property & Entertainment at Riot Games, recently confirmed that his most recent priority was “advancing the League universe.” In that context, you affirm, “My new job is to start a great (some would say massive) game for you that has been asked by many for us to create it.”
As if the hint about the “massive” game wasn’t enough, he specifically answered a question as to whether it would be an MMO. Street confirmed this and the English-speaking colleagues from Polygon have now clarified with a spokesman for Riot Games: An MMORPG in the universe of League of Legends is actually still in the works.
Street itself did not reveal any further details, but it is certain that the MMO is set in the world of Runeterra. With Greg Street you don’t have a bad man on board for such a project at Riot Games, after all, he previously worked for Blizzard Entertainment from 2008 to 2013 as lead systems designer for the long-standing World of WarCraft.
