Via Twitter, Aaron Greenberg confirm that Microsoft will start the production of mini-fridges with the design and finishes of Xbox Series X. Not April Fools April Fools, but a promise kept. In fact, the most curious of all is how and in what way the Xbox Meme came true.
At the end of March, the official Twitter Marketing account started a friendly brand competition. A popularity tournament that pitted the commercial divisions of companies of the caliber of MTV, Doritos, Spotify, Airbnb O Pizza Hut. The winner: the Xbox brand beat Skittles by the minimum, although Greenberg took part in the playoff.
The grand finale of the match took place in April and, almost in extremis, the Xbox Games marketer made a crazy promise in this brand war: if his console won, Xbox refrigerators would be produced.
Ok, here it goes: if you help Xbox win, we’ll put Xbox Series X mini fridges into production this year. Yes, you read it right. This is not an April Fools joke. No clickbait.
The votes were decided hours later and the results, very tight, gave the Microsoft brand the winner. The popular Skittles received the support of 49.5% of the participants versus 50.5% for Xbox. Of course, it must be recognized that the normal model of the refrigerator is amazing.
Greenberg’s strategy worked and, not long after, it became official the production of mini-fridges along with a note of healthy competitiveness for its rivals:
Thanks to everyone who voted for us, it was fought to the end and very exciting to follow. That said, Xbox won and we will follow through on our promise to make those Xbox Series X mini fridges. The first one out of the factory will be full of games and we will ship it to our Skittles friends of course!
Whether or not you are a fan of the Xbox brand, whether there are refrigerators based on the most powerful console in the world is an absolute genius. And may Microsoft begin to produce good news for everyone.
Xbox refrigerators, from meme to reality
When the Xbox Series XMany shared Microsoft’s original vision: the new console looked like a monolith, simple in shape but very efficient in design. But, of course, the internet is wonderful and it didn’t take long for system comparisons with refrigerators to appear.
The best? Microsoft warmly embraced the generated memeNot only were we able to see tributes at the company’s digital events, but on the eve of the launch several well-known artists and faces such as Snoop Dogg or iJustine received your own Xbox Series X refrigerator 100% functional and matching the console itself.
We still do not know its price or its availability, but whether or not you plan to renew your refrigerator, the Xbox Series X model is more than a whim for those passionate about video games: it is one of the best advertising campaigns of this new generation of consoles. A campaign that was born of the meme And, in the most unexpected way, it has become very real.
