The ghost Pokémon has many reasons to be scary. As you know his name means "nightmare" in Japanese, but her name in English refers to miss (miss) and dress (dress). But now the really scary comes because according to user Dr. Lava, Misdreavus is based on the Nukekubi, beheaded ghosts They look normal during the day, but at night their head separates from their body to feed on human blood. This myth comes from Japanese mythology that tells how a priest found a group of these ghosts and to escape them, buried their bodies. The story has a terrible ending and that is why the inspiration of Game Freak to create this character is surprising.
