This is what the players complain about: On Reddit user “GuerrillaSteve” sh ared his concerns about the scaling of enemies during expeditions. He fears that many players will be frustrated if they fail to tackle CT10 expeditions even with the best gear.
The scaling of opponents in Outriders
The different world tiers represent the level of difficulty of the opponents in the loot shooter. The higher the level, the better the loot and enemy strength compared to you. In theory, players are constantly challenged and never completely superior to opponents.

The difference between theory and practice: If you encounter level 42 opponents with a level 50 weapon and World Tier 15 in Campaign, you should in theory be able to finish them off pretty quickly. The same applies to Challenge Tiers up to level 12. In practice, this is not the case, since the players’ weapons as well as the opponents adapt to the World Tier. This is what Pawel Karczmarczuk explains in his post on Reddit:
- The system [World Tiers] only works if the average item level is two levels higher than the opponent’s level.
- When the system works, it scales both player and opponent damage as if the player’s average item level was equal to the opponent’s level +2.
- On World Tier 1, the system is switched off regardless of the level difference.
Reddit user xBoomk1ngx then asked if this would mean that a weapon would be at level 50 automatically at level 44 being downgraded.
Pawel Karczmarczuk answer: »At world level 15 the enemies are at level 42, so if you come with equipment at level 50, the damage will be scaled to level 44. Which should be quite an advantage without breaking the game. Without overleveling, it was not possible to die in principle, which would make the gameplay basically pointless. Downscaling has no influence on the skills or their synergies. ”
Is Downscaling Really a Problem?
The equipment is adapted to the opponents on the highest world tier. The grind for better and better equipment is almost optional. Players who do well on the expeditions do not need better equipment if it is automatically scaled two levels above the opponents.
There was a lot of criticism on Reddit due to the developer’s statements. In particular, the scaling of your own equipment during the expeditions causes a lack of understanding. User Sabretoothninja writes:
“It’s such a bad design philosophy, and it totally contradicts what the genre was founded on. How am I supposed to get that” OP super-power “when you downgrade people? There’s a very good reason why Diablo -Games don’t do this. “

The Challenge Tiers, which determine the level of difficulty on the expeditions regardless of the World Tier, are more demanding. At the highest challenge, tier 15, the opponents are level 50.
Regardless of the level of difficulty, the topic is causing a stir on Reddit and the mechanics behind the scaling remain unclear for many users. The developers are aware of this issue and are already looking for a suitable solution.
Note: In the original report an additional World Tier was mentioned as compensation and in a further paragraph about World Tiers in the expeditions.
