Security vulnerabilities in Taiwanese manufacturer MediaTek's processors currently threaten millions of Android phones. This mainly affects cheap devices that mainly use the company's chips. These products include devices from well-known manufacturers such as Amazon, Huawei, Nokia, Sony or Xiaomi. There is no complete list of risky devices yet. The developer community that discovered the vulnerability, XDA Developers, has found it on nearly 100 devices. The following models are the most common devices:

This is how you protect yourself
The vulnerability allows an attacker to gain root user access on your Android smartphone. As a result, attackers have free access to all the data on your phone and can even control the device remotely. MediaTek closed a security hole a few months ago, but not all manufacturers provided patches for their devices.

Google has now included the patch in the March Android security patch so that at least newer devices and some models of Android One programs should receive updates as soon as possible. There have been reports of the vulnerability being exploited by attackers.
