As expected, Sony scored points with the PS5 in Japan and left the Xbox Series X / S far behind, but what about the rest of the world? The first preliminary surveys are now available, which Sony also see ahead.
It was eagerly anticipated how the PS5 and Xbox Series X / S would fare in comparison, in terms of gamer favor. Neither Sony nor Microsoft have given official sales figures, but the first preliminary surveys are now available VGChartz
According to estimates, the PlayStation 5 sold between 2.1 and 2.5 million times within the first 24 hours after the regionally staggered release. The PS5 was first released in North America, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and South Korea on November 12, then in Europe and the rest of the world on November 19. The above estimate therefore includes the sales starts in all regions within the specified time window.
Interesting: The more expensive PS5 model turned out to be much more popular and is responsible for over 75 percent of these sales. The digital edition is noticeably less popular with the players.
It is estimated that 1.3 to 1.6 million of the total sales were in the regions supplied from November 12th, and another 800,000 to 900,000 copies were added on November 19, particularly in Europe, where 660,000 to 800,000 copies were sold. Between 115,000 and 140,000 of these are in Germany.
And how did the Xbox Series X / S compare? Within the first 24 hours after the release, the next-gen platform from Microsoft brought 1.1 to 1.4 million units sold worldwide. Sony’s PlayStation 5 sold more than twice as often as the competition – a first statement from the PS5, which for the time being seems to be ahead in this console generation.
