Sony has begun beta testing of the new PS4 firmware.
PS4 Users who previously registered to notify future firmware beta tests have received a new message highlighting the upcoming firmware update: version 7.50.
MP1st found that Japanese users first shared the email on Twitter, and then users in other regions received similar messages. According to a Resetera forum member, 7.50 does not bring any major new features.
Instead, the firmware introduces "quality of life and performance fixes." The email did not detail these additions, but Sony generally does not perform beta test firmware updates of this size unless some interesting changes or additions are made.
"Please note that system software 7.50 did not contain any major consumer-oriented features during the test. However, you will find minor quality of life and performance fixes, and we still hope you can help us test overall performance and stability."
If Sony thinks the new features are powerful enough, we will most likely receive a blog post explaining all the new features in 7.50. But until then, we will have to rely on testers to sprinkle the beans.
So far, some users have reported very small updates to the sorting options, and the arrival of the latest version of HDCP. We will give you more details.
