The next PlayStation VR headset is still some distance away.
According to a new report from Bloomberg, Sony plans to launch its next-generation VR headsets, PSVR 2, Sometime next year’s holiday.
The report is actually not specifically for PlayStation VR, but also revealed that the headset will use OLED panels. This is the same type of panel used in the original PSVR, but more and more manufacturers are turning to LCD. Although lacking the color accuracy of OLED, LCD panels are cheaper and provide better image quality at higher refresh rates-which is essential for VR headsets. PSVR users often complain about tailing when watching black or nearly black scenes.
When Sony launched this headset earlier this year, it didn’t say when we can expect the new PSVR to hit the market. The platform holder provided an early appearance of its controller, but did not provide the headset itself.
Although many key details have not been confirmed, there are reports that PSVR 2 will use a 4K panel and use gaze point rendering. It is said that the VR headset also supports tracking from the inside out, which makes it possible to track the controller without external sensors.
