The nightmare of PS3 players continues.
Sony announced at the end of March that it will close the digital store PS3, Vita and PSP Throughout the summer, starting on July 2nd.
The closure should not affect players who already own digital games, as Sony confirmed that they will continue to be able to download them in the future. Unfortunately, at least for some games, they did not get the latest patches.
It is not clear whether this is related to Sony’s upcoming closure of the PS3 PlayStation Store, but many PSNProfiles forum users have been sorting out updated game lists. For some reason, these lists do not download their latest patches.
According to the report (via ResetEra), affected games will not download patches, even if they are forced to download patches through the check for updates feature. The user also tried to start the affected game, which would also force a download, but the download never started.
The games listed appear to show these issues in some regions, but not in others. For example, many people have this problem in North America, but not in Europe. In some cases, only the disc version will be affected, while in other cases it is just a digital issue.
These are not some random niche games either. So far, the list includes such things as “Battlefield 4”, “Castlevania: Lords of Shadow”, “Gran Turismo 5”, “LittleBigPlanet Game of the Year”, “Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2”, “SoulCalibur 4”, “Street Fighter” 3 3rd Strike Online Edition” and other names. When installing from the CD, many anime games will also be affected, such as several “Dragon Ball”, “One Piece”, “Naruto Shippuden” and “Fist of the North Star” games.
There is no doubt that patches are particularly important for games, especially those games whose loot cannot be unlocked without a patch. For online games, having the latest version is the only way to play games online. If there is no way to get the latest patch, you will not be able to do it.
This is most likely a mistake, because there is no detectable consistent pattern here. Although Sony did promise to keep the server online for the foreseeable future and allow players to re-download the games they own, this incident still caused further distrust of the company.
Now, many people are preparing for the worst-case scenario, downloading their favorite games and patching them when possible, especially those games where the update after the release makes a huge difference in their installation or gameplay.
