After the success of the remakes of previous Resident Evil titles, Resident Evil 4 Remake is now on the agenda. However, not everything is going as expected, which is why the intended publication will probably be much longer in coming thanks to a realignment.
Capcom’s Resident Evil 4 Remake will probably take a lot longer before we can actually hold it in our hands. At least that is what a new report by colleagues from VGC
After both Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake were a commercial success, Capcom went straight to the next edition. The development studio M-Two should again be largely responsible for this, which already filled this role in the Resident Evil 3 Remake.
According to the report, M-Two is no longer involved – at least no longer in the lead. The reason was discrepancies between Capcom and M-Two, which is why the role of M-Two in relation to the Resident Evil 4 Remake was “significantly reduced”. Instead, Capcom’s Division 1 takes on the lead development work.
The report also goes into more detail about the alleged discrepancies: M-Two wanted to stay much closer to the original game, especially because Resident Evil 3 Remake had to accept some criticism in this regard. The reason was that “significant parts of the original PlayStation game” were missing in the remake.
Capcom, on the other hand, is aiming for a remake that is inspired by the original, but wants to tackle various elements that were not necessarily part of the original game. As an example, a similar approach to Mr. X in Resident Evil 2 is given here.
Due to the changeover and the associated reboot of the development work, the Resident Evil 4 Remake should now be moved noticeably backwards. Although there has not yet been an official release date for the project, it should now be finished in 2023 at the earliest.
Even if an official announcement was still pending, the remake should have been in progress since 2018; a publication had so far been planned for 2022. We will of course keep you informed about the further development of this rumor.
