The COVID-19 pandemic forced the Japanese government and the International Olympic Committee to postpone the 2020 Olympic Games next year. The latter having decided to keep the mark "Tokyo 2020" for these Olympiads, SEGA told itself that it was not going to upset its plans concerning the official video games of the Olympic Games.

SEGA announced th is week the launch of Sonic at the Olympic Games – Tokyo 2020, its official mobile game for the Olympic Games. 2020
As its name suggests, Sonic at the Olympic Games – Tokyo 2020 is a sports game in which players can participate in 15 Olympic proofs, some of which will make their appearance during the next Olympiads (such as karat or climbing). Here players can compare their scores with those of other app users from around the world.
And to encourage Sonic fans to download the game, the Japanese publisher revealed that music well known to fans of the series is also present here. For example, the two million players who "signed up for the game" unlocked the following three in-game tracks:
