Space company SpaceX granted the late Eve online gamer Bruce Spike MacPhee his last wish and buried his ashes in space. On January 24, 2021, the rocket took off with the remains of the fan.
The news of the fulfillment of his friend’s last wish was spread by Charles White, better known in the Eve gaming scene as the Space Pope, on social networks. White takes the opportunity to hold up MacPhee’s memory:
“The ashes of an Eve player is on its way into space via SpaceX this morning. He was a wonderful friend of mine, disabled, and the virtual worlds were his life. He said,” I only see three people a year, but in SL and EVE I see hundreds of friends. ”
The ashes of my friend Paradox Olbers (Spike MacPhee in real life) were shot into space this morning. We were good friends in both Second Life and Eve Online. He was a supporter and fan of early space art in the style of Don Davis. Paradox wrote in his profile: “I’m trapped in gravity, save us SpaceX.” And sure enough, his ashes rose into the limitless vacuum of space. Keep flying, Paradox, keep flying. ”

Numerous players express their condolences under the tweet. Many also pay their last respects to the deceased with the typical salute emoji “o7”.
Developers set up Eve cemetery
As early as 2020, developer CCP opened an official cemetery in Eve Online, where deceased players are also buried in the virtual universe. Previously, players had taken on this task as part of their own space station, but this will no longer be possible in future due to changes to the game. Therefore, the developers set such a monument to the dead.
Eve Online is a space MMO role-playing game that is over 17 years old and is known for its strong community and the relationships among players. Many gamers state that they have developed deep friendships and even found love in Eve Online over the years.
