As Bloodstained by the renowned developer Koji Igarashi proves, so can successful Kickstarter projects go wrong. In 2015, this set a new record with its campaign: At that time, it collected the largest sum for a video game. Accordingly, many stretch go als were met. However, nine months after the release, the developer deletes another one with the Roguelike mode.
The team gives the reasonthat parts of the source code that were written very early in the development process are "not compatible with this type of gameplay" For example, it is not possible to have the levels generated randomly as planned. Therefore, it was decided not to publish Roguelike mode anymore.
The current status of Bloodstained
Other stretch goals already canceled: In the past, the team subsequently removed stretch goals. So they decided against a release for the WiiU, but released the game for it on the Switch. Versions for macOS, Linux and PSVita, however, fell completely flat.
Not all stretch goals installed yet: Up to now, promised content is still missing. These include a cooperative game mode, asynchronous multiplayer, a second and third character, a classic mode and the boss revenge mode.
Fans are disappointed
While the fans are satisfied with the main program – which was also convincing in our test – disappointment is now spreading. Bloodstained itself appeared two years late and did not contain any of the stretch goals for the release.
However, development is not yet complete and updates are still planned. However, the latest announcement leaves doubts arise among the playerswhether all the promised content will still be published. For example, m1s3ry comments on Reddit:
"[…] Many players, including myself, just baked the game because of Roguelike mode. Now they take out this great feature and offer us this random mode, which just seems half-hearted.
[…] As a programmer, I know that it is very difficult to implement a reasonable Roguelike mode in this kind of game with hand-made environments. But that's the point: if you can't do it, don't advertise it.
[…] Now I'm afraid that they will also remove the multiplayer mode, which, sadly, is very likely. […] "
Next, a randomizer mode should appear, Zangetsu as a playable character and the Boss Revenge mode. However, the developer has not yet given an appointment for these features.
