In the coming week, the Taipei Game Show should have been the first relevant game event of the still young year 2020, but the corona virus is thwarting the organizers.
Throughout the year there are new announcements and fresh impressions of upcoming top titles at several trade fairs and events. The Taipei Game Show should have started in 2020, but the corona virus, which currently dominates the headlines around the world, is putting a spanner in the works for the organizers and participants.
Based on the Chinese Wuhan, the corona virus has now spread to other countries and regions. Yesterday, the ninth case of an infected person was announced in Taiwan; the virus has claimed more than 200 lives and infected more than 9,000 people.
After the organizers of the show had first sent a list of precautionary measures about the show to the participants, they have now decided to cancel the fair. The fair should have risen from February 6th to 9th, but that's no longer the case.
Instead, the Taipei Game Show should now be rescheduled later this year; a specific date beyond the summer 2020 general figure was not yet given.
It was a difficult decision, says a statement. "Due to the serious outbreak of the coronavirus from Wuhan, we decided to postpone the event until the summer."
The Taipei Game Show attracts around 320,000 visitors annually. Among other things, this year should have been shown new scenes of the RPG hopefuls Cyberpunk 2077 (at least behind closed doors).
