Doom Eternal brings back many enemies who made their debut in Doom 2: Hell.
Eternal doomAs in the 2016 restart, there is no shyness in reimagining classic characters, locations and enemies. The demons in the doomsday game will help give each entering character.
When developing Doom Eternal, id Software has a large library of demonic works for your reference and has creative licenses to create even more original designs. In an interview with Noclip, game director Hugo Martin explored how the studio redesigned some classic Doom 2 enemies.
The classic Elements of Pain, Spider-Man, and Hell Soldier are back, although the roles haven't changed much. For example, the arachnid is essentially a movable turret, capable of adhering to walls and ceilings. If you remove the turret, it will chase you and cause damage like any melee-based demon.
Hell warriors, on the other hand, are not a feed in classic games you might remember. Although hell fighters are often the weakest of most other enemies in combat, they can still pose a threat if you ignore them.
Martin explained that developers occasionally encounter frustrating players as long as the encounter can teach them something or help them explore another way of playing. This design philosophy is one of the reasons why some of these demon redesigns are more interesting.
For example, the new corpse is designed to combat players who are too dependent on rocket launchers by placing obstacles on the arena (if you are not careful) that will eventually cause the rocket to damage you instead of reaching your goal. Martin pointed out that the rocket has greater splash damage, which can make this idea really penetrate the player's mind.
In addition, it introduces some new enemies introduced in Eternal Doom, such as Doom Hunter, Predator and Whiplash, the first female demon. Watch the full video above.
Doom Eternal hopes to change this formula considerably through hub areas and more challenging arenas with platform and lightweight puzzle solutions.
When Doom Eternal Edition is released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One on March 20th, we will know if id can surpass Doom 2016.
