The world of Demon’s Souls It stands out for its dark and sinister theme in which any element that has nothing to do with it draws too much attention. Maybe that was why the Bluepoint team decided place rubber ducks all over the game during development of this remake for PS5.
This is what Collin Harris, one of the team’s technical artists, has confessed to the portal GamesRadar. In his statements, he stated that in the first trial versions Little rubber ducks were scattered everywhere, including a giant-sized one as the final boss.
It all started with a friend of his who designed a rubber duck and added it to the studio’s library of items for no particular purpose. However, Harris found him and it occurred to him that it would be a good idea to use it as a test dummy for the purposes of the game, as well stated:
It turned out to be the perfect model to try due to its size and shape. It didn’t hurt that it was also a fun juxtaposition to see a bright yellow rubber duck sitting in an incredibly detailed dark fantasy setting.
during demon’s souls’ development, we used a rubber duck to test various tech / fx with. obviously, things quickly got out of hand. #demonssouls #gameart #gamedev pic.twitter.com/4Kg4JDtr80

In the end the idea came together so well that the team the matter got a little out of hand, because the world of Demon’s Souls was completely filled with ducks to use as placeholders. Even so, in the end it was decided remove them simply as a precaution so that none of them slip into the final version that was released a few weeks ago, which must be recognized that it would have been a nice Easter-egg to find one.
In this way, Bluepoint avoided damaging its relationship with Sony so that no one would run into any duck in the form of an enemy. In any case, Harris didn’t want the anecdote to go away, so he decided print some 3D versions of the duck that he delivered to several company employees, although he kept a few that now appear on his desk so as not to forget these virtual rubber ducks that have passed away.
