For a long time it was quiet about the new Lord of the Rings adventure, which has been developed at the German studio Daedalic for some time. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was already announced at that time for all "relevant platforms" in the future, which is why implementations for the PS5 and Xbox Series X, as they are called today, were obvious. Now these consoles have been confirmed in addition to the PC, Xbox One and PS4.
In the same interview in which Daedalic confirmed the new platforms, it had also been warned that fans should not necessarily expect a version of Gollum that resembles the character embodied by Andy Serkis in the films. In an interview with EDGE magazine, senior producer Kai Fiebig revealed that the conflicting figure should be portrayed more as outlined in the novels. Since Tolkien did not even go into fundamental properties such as the size of Gollum in his description, he appeared in the first depictions as a giant swamp monster.
In The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, however, the title character does not necessarily have to look like this, since Daedalic did not go into further detail. The only prospect was that Gollum will differ from the film version. The same applies to the Nazgûl, which will also be part of the game.
Gollum's split personality should become an important game element. Each chapter is said to lead to conflict situations between Gollum and Sméagol, which ultimately lead to a final decision.
The game is expected in 2021.
