Tomonobu Itagaki confirmed with Bloomberg The next game is planned for PC (Steam), Xbox Series and PS5.

The former flagship game designer of Team Ninja at Tecmo announced in a Facebook post the creation of a new development studio and leaves the door open for a collaboration with Microsoft.

In an article published on Jan. 6, Bloomberg looked back on the history of the Xbox and interviewed many actors who had worked on the project, but also developers. Among them was Tomonobu Itagaki, creator of the modern series Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden, who directed Dead or Alive in Dead or Alive 4, as well as Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden II.

Courtesy Bloomberg, posted last Sunday on the facebook page the complete minutes of his interview, which could not be integrated into the basic article due to lack of space.

In this long post we learn in particular that the game designer has mainly trained novice developers for the past four years. but that he now feels the urge to make a new game thanks to his studio called Itagaki Games. in addition, Tomonobu Itagaki also uses this interview to suggest that he would be willing to discuss a collaboration with Microsoft:

Haha, (if that happened) I would re-ask the questions I (Xbox designer) asked Seamus (Blackley) two decades ago. At the time I asked him, “Are you sure you can beat the PS2?” and he said yes. “The Xbox is called ‘Project Midway’ and it will give me supremacy.” That’s why I trusted him and developed Xbox exclusive games for about 10 years. It has been 20 years since then and I started my own company, Itagaki Games, which is neither Tecmo nor Valhalla. I know Microsoft is still aggressive. If you contact me, I will be honored.

Unsurprisingly, if you remember that Dead or Alive 3 and Ninja Gaiden were exclusive games for the Xbox and Dead or Alive 4 and Ninja Gaiden II on the Xbox 360, before the latter saw improved customizations in other media such as Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2.

Also, keep in mind that this isn’t the first time Tomonobu Itagaki has created a development studio since the Ninja Gaiden II was released in 2008. The game designer had left Koei Temco to set up Valhalla Game Studios with the former Team Ninja in 2011 before leaving the company in August 2017. Currently, the studio has only released three games, the most famous of which is Devil’s Third, a TPS that was originally slated for PS3 and Xbox 360 but will ultimately be an exclusive Wii U game released in 2015.
