Valve believes that competition is healthy for the industry in terms of PC stores, even if it "looks ugly in the short term."
Valve CEO and co-founder Gabe Newell spoke in the latest issue of Edge magazine (thanks Games Radar) and talked about his feelings about having competitors like Epic Games Store.
It turns out he wasn't bothered by this, because competition could be a good thing.
"The competition in the game store is great for everyone," Newell said. "This keeps us honest and everyone else.
"But in the short run, it's ugly. You're like," Ah, they yell, they make us look terrible "– but in the long run, everyone will benefit from discipline and consideration, This means you have to challenge you by engaging people to conduct business. "
Newell said Valve wasn't exhausted by competition, but was "scared" by people who "try to stop the competition."
"If you ask us which one is more scary, it's that people fall in love with Apple's model of controlling everything, and faceless bureaucrats who stop you if they don't want products or design the store in some way. Products into the market. Minimizing the value-added of software for experiences and similar things, "he said.
The Epic Games Store officially opened in December 2018. During 2019, and even last week, the service added many features to users.
